One of the most distinctively styled A-class motorhomes imported into the UK, the K-Yacht falls with Mobilvetta’s Tekno Line range, which also encompasses Kea P low-profiles. It is imported exclusively by Marquis Leisure (with branches all over England), a sister company in the vast Trigano empire, and is one of the very few A-classes to be produced with a UK-handed body, so the habitation door is on the nearside and the single cab door is alongside the driver, rather than the passenger. Unusually in this class, it also comes with NCC (National Caravan Council) approval.

In typical Marquis style, following the format of its other exclusive ranges from Benimar and Elddis, the K-Yacht comes with a very full standard specification and almost no options. If you like to fine-tune your new motorhome to the nth degree you’ll be out of luck but, if you want a good-value package without a confusing myriad of packs to add, then this is a good place to start.

The only choices to make are manual gearbox or Comfort-Matic (add £2,100) and the maximum weight of the chassis. The standard 3,650kg model gives you a 395kg payload in manual form, while the no-cost downplating to 3,500kg results in a rather paltry 260kg capacity. Families and full-timers might alternatively consider the 4,400kg chassis with 1.1-tonne payload for an extra £1,425.

Whichever weight suits your needs, the Fiat chassis comes with the 150bhp Euro 6 engine as standard – the ideal power unit for a vehicle of this size. As well as the alloy wheels for a touch of external bling, the cab comes with all the toys – DAB radio with touchscreen sat-nav and reversing camera, automatic air-conditioning, heated windscreen, cruise control, ESP, Traction Plus, driver and passenger airbags and a leather steering wheel.

Externally, the iTech body construction is 100% wood-free and comes with a five-year water ingress warranty. Exterior shower and barbecue points are fitted, along with a solar panel and Winter Pack (insulated waste water tank and frost-protected drain valve). The habitation door comes with a mosquito screen.

Inside, all K-Yachts have high-gloss, marine-style furniture and ‘eco leather’ upholstery for a luxurious look, while there’s a choice of three layouts, all coming in at under seven-and-a-half metres. The K-Yacht 79, seen here, is the island bed version.

However, this is not an island bed layout in its most often seen form but the type that places a wall at the foot of the bed (ideal for a TV), on the reverse of which is the washbasin. Some will love the more private feeling of a bedroom like this but do check out the mattress size if you’re tall as this design leaves no room for toes to stretch out over the end. Mobilvetta’s claimed dimensions for the bed are 1.92m by 1.40m.

It’s a spacious ablutions area spanning the full width of the motorhome in front of the steps leading up to the bed. On the offside is a swivel cassette toilet on a plinth, while in the opposing corner is the shower cubicle (with a step in the tray). The central bowl-on-a-plinth basin is the visual focus of the area with spotlights above for that star’s dressing room effect.

The kitchen comes with the latest in motorhome cooking tech – a combined gas and induction hob – while an oven/grill is mounted above the 150-litre fridge/freezer. A chopping board is provided, as is a slide-out larder unit.

Up front, the L-settee and single side seat have upholstered kick panels, while the fixed high-gloss table serves up to five folk easily. Roman blinds are fitted and there’s a TV position high up, adjacent to the entrance door.

There is a lot to commend with the K-Yacht 79. The distinctive styling, eye-catching washroom design and well equipped kitchen are among the high points, but best of all is the fact that this comes with a full standard specification and very few options.
