Hymer and Mercedes-Benz – as well as being two highly respected German brands – are increasingly being seen as two names that go together. Hymer was amongst the very first manufacturers to build motorhomes based on the new Sprinter, with the ML-T on the rear-wheel drive chassis-cab, the B-Class ModernComfort (low-profiles and A-class) with lightweight SLC chassis and front-wheel drive and the Grand Canyon S van conversion.

Now, there’s another Merc-based line-up – the T-Class S – although there are just two models to begin with. It is based on the Sprinter with front-wheel drive and the original chassis frame, to the benefit of both payload and interior headroom. Numerous driver assistance systems are also included – Crosswind Assist, Active Brake Assist and Distronic adaptive cruise control.

Inside, the T-Class S boasts a modern combination of gloss and matt. Thanks to the lowered chassis frame, the living area floor is level throughout the vehicle, while headroom is a generous 2.04m. Even the shower boasts an impressive height of 1.94m.

The 695 layout comes with a height-adjustable island bed measuring 1.95m by 1.50m, while an electric drop-down double bed over the lounge is available as an option. A rear single bed layout (the 685) will be the alternative design for the new T-Class S.

Hymer describes the front lounge as a ‘couch/couch layout’ but readers might be more used to this being described as side settees. It’s the currently en vogue design and, as you’d expect, the seats can be altered to face forwards for travel.

Heating is by diesel-fired blown-air (reducing the reliance on gas cylinders), but gas is retained for the hob and optional oven (which sits above the 152-litre fridge/freezer).

Hymer’s accessories department, called Hymer Original Parts, will also offer a Flyer e-bike which can be stored in the rear garage.
