Hymer’s range of coachbuilt motorhomes is vast and is split between low-profile or A-class. Here we are focus on a low-profile in the company’s T-class range.
In Germany it is called Tramp but – for obvious reasons – here we call it simply the T-class.
This Hymer T-CL 574 is a mid-range coachbuilt model with something a little special as it benefits from added specification thanks to the included Ambition pack.
So, in addition to all the standard equipment you get in the base model, with this Ambition special edition, buyers also get cab extras such as
- automatic air-conditioning
- tyre pressure sensors and
- cruise control. In addition, you get two addition packs – the Exterior and Interior Style Packs – that get you
- 16” alloy wheels
- a black radiator grille
- colour-coded door handles and aluminium metallic grey cab
- gloss black skid-plate
- LED daytime running lights and
- special Ambition graphics, while inside you get
- aluminium-coloured trim and chrome rings on the dashboard
- a mosquito net blind for the habitation door, as well as
- additional sockets and
- ambient LED lighting and
- an additional cushion between single beds.
According to Hymer, the saving is up to £8,570 compared to ordering everything individually at list price. Not a bad start then.
The T-CL 574, which starts at £62,160, has one of the most popular layouts in the current European market: a twin rear single bed layout above a large garage with an L-shaped lounge incorporating the swivel captain’s cab seats at the front and both the washroom and kitchen centrally located.
The lounge has a large 360-degree swivel table that can seats up to five people for dinner using the single side-facing seat as well as the two cab seats and the main L-shaped lounge seating. Behind the lounge and alongside the habitation door is the galley with a three-burner hob, sink with cover for additional work surface (there is also a flip-up worktop extension) and plenty of low-level soft-close drawer storage below and a cupboard above. UK-specced models also get an Aspire oven and grill. The T-CL 574 also gets a 142-litre Smart-Tower fridge/freezer.
Opposite is the washroom with a full shower (with wooden duckboard) and swivel loo and corner sink. But the reason to buy this model is to be found at the rear - the twin beds. These are 80cm wide by either 190 or 192cm long and are accessed by two steps.
There is the possibility to create one large (140cm by 190cm) double bed if required. Under each single bed are wardrobes large enough to accommodate hanging shirts and jumpers. Hymer converts both Mercedes and Fiat and here it uses the low-frame Ducato as its base, which comes as standard with a manual 130bhp engine and sits on a 3.5-tonne chassis meaning anyone with a standard car licence can drive it.
Payload is a very respectable 515kg, which is more than ample for this two-berth model (it can sleep three and travel four but really it is aimed at the touring couple). However, if you want more you can upgrade the chassis to 3,850kg or even 4,400kg.
This 6.8m-long motorhome – the shortest in the CL range - has been built using Hymer now famous Pual wood-free construction.
Our Verdict
With the addition of the Ambition pack, this is a very well equipped German motorhome with the build-quality and impressive detailing that comes from one of Europe’s top manufacturers.
