The Eura Mobil Contura 766 EB motorhome

In the early noughties, Eura Mobil was a major player on the UK scene, highly regarded in particular for its top-of-the-range Integra A-classes. More recently, however, its presence has been low-key for a brand that has such an extensive range, as well as 40 years’ experience in the motorhome business. But that is all now set to change, starting with a display of four models at the upcoming NEC Motorhome and Caravan Show.
Those will be left-hookers, with production of right-hand drive vehicles beginning in May.
One of the motorhomes heralding Eura Mobil’s return to Britain will be the Contura, the company’s most prestigious low-profile line-up, based on the Mercedes Sprinter with Al-Ko chassis. These are 4.5-tonne vehicles, offering substantial payloads and a luxurious spec, including Alde heating.
Only two layouts figure in the Contura range, each with rear single beds over a large garage and an overall length of 7.84m. The 766 EB (shown here) has a half-dinette lounge, which the 766 EF trades for face-to-face seating.
The exterior
Externally, this is a handsome motorhome with its optional Obsidian Black cab, Mercedes alloys and unusual gold graphics. Flush-fitting habitation windows and a large overcab sunroof are de rigueur at this level of the market, while the Contura also boasts a heated double floor – a feature only found in the most upmarket low-profile motorhomes.
Housed within that basement are the 140-litre fresh water and 100-litre waste tanks, while the drain for the latter is operated electrically. Body construction is wood-free with 30mm thickness for walls and roof, 38mm for the floor. The exterior hatches have double seals and there’s a central compartment for the habitation services.
Of course, another key feature in a heavy-chassis vehicle like this is storage and the garage will not disappoint, with its 1.24m internal headroom, heavy duty flooring and drain to hose things out if it all gets too messy.
The cab
The advantages of the Merc cab are well publicised and here there’s the option to upgrade from 150 to 170bhp, as well the choice of six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic transmission.
Multiple driver assistance systems such as Traffic Sign Recognition, Distronic adaptive cruise control, Active Lane Keeping Assist and Highbeam Assist are available as a package, while the MBUX multimedia system includes voice activation.
The interior
Inside, there’s a distinctly premium feel to this latest generation of Eura Mobil motorhome, with high-gloss top lockers and optional leather upholstery in beige or grey.
Soft, pillow-like backrest cushions add comfort, while Roman blinds give extra privacy and the Starlight Dome is an optional two-part panoramic glass roof that’s exclusive to the brand.
Other good details include the cab reading lights and table that turns through 360 degrees.
The kitchen
The galley area isn’t huge but its Flow-Line design with Corian-style worktop and integral sink is another premium touch, while the Argo hose-style tap will please the chef. Cooking is on a three-burners-in-line hob, while an oven will be added for the UK.
Large kitchen drawers provide plenty of easy-access storage and, opposite, the two-door fridge/freezer has a 177-litre capacity.
The beds
At the back of the motorhome, the high-level single beds have seven-zone cold foam mattresses of generous length – 1.91m offside and 2.00m nearside.
The headboard includes chrome trim and ambient lighting but, more importantly, the head end of each bed can be raised for sitting up with a morning brew. And a feature we’ve not seen before is that both beds, in their entirety, can be hinged up on gas struts to access the storage below, even perhaps reaching things stored in the garage.
The washroom
There is a wardrobe under the offside bed and a second wardrobe alongside the shower.
Of note in the split washroom facilities are the shower with shampoo shelves and twin drains and the wall-mounted tap in the toilet area, which also has an opening window.
Where to buy
Eura Mobil motorhomes are being reintroduced to the UK by M and C Ltd of Hull, which is well-known for representing the Italian Rimor brand.
The plan is to gradually appoint up to six or seven Eura Mobil dealers to cover the UK with a good geographical spread of outlets.
