A new, shorter (sub-7m) island bed model debuts in the Matrix range

Shorter on length, longer on comfort’ is the key marketing message for Adria’s 2020-season motorhome portfolio. There are key sub-7m launches in Coral, Coral XL, Matrix and Sonic ranges, as well as a redesigned Compact.

Here, we’re looking at one of four new, shorter models in the Matrix (low-profile with drop-down bed) range, the others being the 600 DT with an end washroom and garage, the 600 SL with fixed single beds over a garage and the super-compact (under 6m) 520 ST. As usual in Adria terminology, the SC suffix here indicates an island bed. Also in line with the Slovenian brand’s established range, the Matrix comes in Axess, Plus and Supreme spec. However, this 600 SC model is only offered in entry-level Axess trim in the UK (the vehicle photographed was a continental-spec Plus model, so may differ slightly from what’s sold here).

The British-market model comes with a white cab and Tempo Brown interior (featuring wood tone top lockers). It’s the layout – and the size of the motorhome– that’s key, though. That starts with an L-shaped lounge up front with a floor at the same level as the cab to prevent dangling feet. There’s a step down into the galley/entrance area and, in addition to the usual four places around the 860mm by 750mm fixed table, a small jump seat is located by the habitation door.

An opening overcab sunroof lets plenty of light into the vehicle, while artificial illumination is well catered for by touch-operated reading lights on the B-pillars and four LEDs set into the base of the drop-down bed.

The kitchen runs straight along the offside wall, aft of the doorway and the drawers here come with a top-notch soft-closing system. However, rather than the four drawers seen here, UK motorhomes will get just two as an oven/grill will be fitted as standard. The cooker has only two burners and is a separate unit to the sink, not the combined Monobloc unit seen in many Adrias. Alongside is a tall/slim three-way fridge with useful 142-litre capacity.

Next to the fridge (and the washroom opposite), the floor level steps up to the bedroom, where a concertina screen can be deployed to provide privacy. Behind the washroom’s tambour door, you’ll find a compact space that uses its dimensions to good effect. The swing wall arrangement rotates the basin over the loo and allows a decent-sized shower without recourse to a curtain.

At the back, the island bed slides back to create a luxurious place to relax, but with the bed extended there’s still plenty of room to move around the foot of the mattress – unlike in most rival 7m models. The bed itself measures a fairly generous 1.91m by 1.50m and there’s a rooflight above. Reading lights on either side of the bed come with built-in USBs. Another important aspect is that the bed is electrically adjustable for height and there are two full-sized loading doors for the garage. Inside the locker are drain holes, 230V and 12V sockets as well as USBs, lights on either side, and tie-downs. Maximum weight in here is 150kg.
