This is one of a number of new sub-seven-metre models from Adria for the 2020 season. Under the banner ‘short on length, longer on comfort’, the Slovenian maker has launched shorter floorplans in Sonic (A-class), Matrix (low-profile with drop-down bed), Coral (low-profile) and Coral XL (overcab) ranges, all carrying a ‘600’ suffix model designation.

Unusually for a vehicle of this reasonably modest size, the new Coral XL 600 DP has six berths and six travel seats, as well as being built on a 3,500kg chassis to suit every driver. And, in a motorhome market that’s increasingly dominated by low-profile vehicles, the Coral XL stands out for retaining the classic double bed in the luton. Not only that, but here is an overcab vehicle that definitely isn’t aimed at the bottom rung of the price ladder, where hire fleet sales dominate. If you want entry-level, that’s the domain of sister brand, Sun Living.

Another focus of Adria this year is the enhancement of its garage areas and the 600 DP is a layout in which the rear locker is a key aspect. With a maximum load of 150kg, the garage here comes with two full-sized external doors as well as interior access and the bed is manually height-adjustable to increase the load space. In common with other garage-layout Adrias, the Coral XL also gets 12V, 230V and USB sockets in this super-sized locker, plus improved illumination and new flooring with two drain holes for sluicing out.

Above the garage is a transverse double bed measuring 1.28m wide by a generous 1.93m long. Reading lights are fitted on the bedroom’s offside, as well as an opening window on the nearside. There’s a large rooflight but, more importantly (as this is quite a high bed), is the pair of built-in steps to reach the mattress.

Although the rear bedroom looks appealing, mum and dad might actually opt for the overcab. At 1.96m by 1.37m, it’s the bigger bed and with twin opening windows and a big rooflight, it’s light and airy, too. It even has heater ducting running right around the luton.

The third bed is created from the lounge, which in the 600 DP is a pullman dinette on the nearside. There are four seatbelts here but the rear-facing bench only has lap belts. It’ll be a squeeze to get more than a quartet around the table but headroom of up to 2.33m (just behind the cab) and a wide habitation door result in a good feeling of space.

A flat floor from the cab through to the bedroom is another plus, while there’s an unusually large two-door wardrobe behind the driver’s seat (with right-hand drive – the LHD show model photographed here may differ from some elements of UK spec).

That particularly applies to the galley, which will gain an oven/grill. The monobloc L-shaped sink/hob combination with three burners won’t change, though – fortunately, as it frees up worktop. Opposite the kitchen unit is a whopping 167-litre fridge/freezer.

The bathroom surprises, too, with a really generous separate shower and a neat fold-down washbasin that’s hidden behind a mirror when not in use.

So, the Coral XL isn’t as compact as some but it is a six-berth motorhome with a lot of facilities and a good-quality feel throughout.
