This new Adria Coral Platinum motorhome managed to appear far more upmarket than others parked around it at the dealer, Brownhills, even those costing thousands of pounds more.

For a start, it’s a true low-profile with modern styling, a big overcab sunroof and automotive-style tail-lights. Then there’s the low-slung body that requires no external step at its wider-than-average door with flush window. The only feature that lets the side down is the caravan-style windows which sit proud of the body.

On the practical side, you get a 12V socket adjacent to the water filler, remote central locking on the entrance door and two large hatches into the under-bed void. The width is over a metre and this generous space can take up to 150kg. There’s a full-sized spare wheel in here, too, rather than just a can of get-you-home gloop.

Furniture is lighter-coloured Horizont, rather than the Matrix’s Forest, while the Mexico fabric with half-leather-look and criss-cross stitching is stylish and well finished but likely to offend no one with its beige/brown hue. What really impresses, though, is the amount of light – both natural and artificial.

The classic continental-style lounge is no surprise, but the sturdy fixed table pulls out far enough into the centre of the ’van to serve four or five diners without the need of an extension leaf. The bedroom can be isolated from the front of the vehicle by a solid sliding door, but there’s no privacy between bed and shower. Viewed as a two-berth it’s less of an issue, but Adria says you can make the front lounge into a transverse single bed.

You’ll have few complaints about the firm fixed bed aft, though, as, even extended, the bedroom is not tight for room. The cupboards over the head of the mattress are a bit too prominent and it’s still possible to bash your head when the bed is retracted into chaise longue mode.

The shower is a reasonable size, despite wheelarch intrusion, and there’s decent legroom on the loo with the tambour door closed behind you. In the galley, you’ll be relieved to find some worktop created by the inclusion of a smart three-burners-in-line hob. There’s an oven/grill combined unit, too, as well as a trio of soft-close drawers and an illuminated splashback. Typically, the fridge is one of the latest tall ‘n’ slim models with self-selecting energy source and a whopping 142-litre capacity.

In a crowded market sector where British and European manufacturers fight head-to-head, the Adria’s durable feel and stylish looks should be enough to ensure it a place on your must-see list.
