PERUSE the various spec tables and you’ll find that of our recommended decade of lightweight caravans, the 2005 Lunar is one of the lightest of all.
In fact it’s so light that the Stellar could easily be towed by a car from the class below the Mondeo, such as a Ford Focus or Peugeot 307.
But while the Stellar is a lightweight in the literal sense, it’s no lightweight when it comes to features for the money. The positive impressions begin as soon as you see it, with its ultra-modern external appearance thanks to its pure white finish and bold stripes.
On the inside things aren’t quite so modern thanks to the choice of colours – but the layout generally works well, and especially so if you’re a cook. That’s because the kitchen is superb, running along the back of the caravan and part-way up the off-side. As such, it offers plenty of working and storage space as well as equipment.
Sadly, this is at the expense of the washroom, which ends up losing out in a big way. But despite the lack of space on offer there’s plenty of equipment in there – including a neat flip-down wash basin that sits in the wall above the toilet.
But at least the sleeping arrangements work well, with good beds that aren’t too much of a fag to set up. So while the Stellar is the lightest here, it’s not the cheapest or best assembled – but it does offer strong value for money.
