The 2009 Lunar Lexon Spirit 640 RS is a special edition caravan based on a Lexon, made for Campbells Caravans

Lunar’s Lexon RS has a wonderfully spacious layout with sizeable kitchen, fixed bed and almost full-length lounge. It’s a popular model, light in weight for its length and with a good level of specification for £16,927.

Now, though, you get a choice: buy a standard RS – or a special edition Lunar Spirit RS, with more specification and a totally different soft-furnishing image.

It’s the creation of Campbells Caravans, of Lostock Hall, Preston, for 2009 to mark the 40th year of both Lunar and Campbells. It’s one of a number of Lexon-based special editions that include a two-berth and a smaller fixed bed layout. It will cost you £1490 more than the standard Lexon on which it’s based.

So what do you get for the extra cash? For starters, there’s the AL-KO ATC traction control system that enhances safety on the road. Add in a sprung mattress, radio/CD/DVD unit, a mains hob plate in addition to three gas burners, a satellite television point in the battery box and you have a good package of extras. You also get two features that transform the appearance of the standard Lexon and create the Spirit as a distinctive model that looks totally different to the Lexon: darkened windows and exclusive upholstery and curtains.

Privacy windows are a love-them-or-loathe-them feature, but the upholstery creates a lovely warm look. Although there’s some cream and fawn in there, this fabric is sufficiently different to mark the Spirit range out as special.

If you like Lunar Lexons and want more specification – and a unique look, the 2009 Lexon Spirit range is worth your close inspection. The upholstery’s light, warm shades and quality look give the Spirit a character of its own. Privacy windows? That’s for you to decide.
