IF your definition of caravan luxury involves big fridges and separate freezers, big kitchens with big cupboards, and fixed beds, Lunar’s flagship Delta RS is a strong contender for your next move.
Add in the enhanced road stability of two axles, plus the enveloping warmth of the hot-water-based Alde central heating system and the luxury picture is beginning to shape up nicely.
And there’s more. With the Alde system comes a heated towel rail in that lovely end washroom. You get an in-board water tank. And the number of cushions in the lounge – plus a couple of head-bolsters for extra comfort – makes sure you are always cosy.
So, plenty of size, plenty of refinements and all the specification you’d expect in a £21,000-plus caravan...
The RS’s appeal is also its spacious layout and capacious cupboard space. Its kitchen seems to have been designed for keen cooks.
There’s as much kitchen storage space as you’ll see in any caravan and plenty of work top, too.
Opposite is the largest dresser you’ll see in pretty much any caravan, giving you extra kitchen surface when you need it.
There are two huge cupboards and a drawer in this unit, plus head-height lockers and two useful shelves to the right of the door.
The RS sleeps four but its kitchen is easily capable of catering for six. Great, then, for entertaining; best buy an awning if meals for more than four are a regular occurrence, though, because seating more than four at the table is a bit of a squash.
That’s because the RS’s settees are the short-bed variety – enough length for children to sleep in single beds but adults will have to make up the double bed across the caravan.
After you’ve taken in the sumptuously-cushioned lounge with its meld of palest duck-egg blue subtly edged with gold-coloured thread, a small amount of brown and a lot of beautiful pale cream, thoughts turn back to that superb kitchen.
One of this caravan’s greatest assets is the 180-litre tower-style fridge with separate freezer above. With food storage capability like this, trips to a supermarket can be infrequent, so they won’t intrude on your holiday time.
The luxury list goes on as you progress down the caravan. The nearside bed’s cut-off to create the corridor is minimal and the wardrobe, although slanted to create that corridor, gives you ample hanging space.
On the offside is a dresser-style mirror arrangement, with a number of shelves along each side plus one beneath.
The grooming facilities can be added to the luxuries list, then. And there’s a mains socket in the perfect position to power a hairdrier.
Next stop on your guided tour: the showering arrangements. The shower is large, the washbasin and its surrounding cupboards and selves are excellently configured – and the heated towel rail – a bonus of Alde central heating system – is the icing on an excellent cake.
There’s a good extractor fan, satellite connector, plus, an output from the caravan’s radio/CD/DVD player.
The Super-pitch water connection point with 25-metre hose, external shower connection point with hose and head, Phantom tracker (and a year’s subscription), ATC Trailer Stability Control System, two AL-KO Secure wheel locks and, for good measure, even a blue LED-illuminated Lunar symbol at floor level that stays on all the time. Did we mention the kitchen sink?
Assuming your budget is in £21,000-plus caravan territory, your aspirations lie in the direction of permanent-bed layouts and you appreciate luxury in all its tourer forms, the Delta RS has to be considered. Few caravans can come close to it in equipment level.
And few can match its light, airy, spacious ambiance. If you’re not in the £21,000 league, just sit back and enjoy the read!
