Elddis Crusader Supersirocco

It’s spacious, it’s stylish and it’s luxurious – everything is well-made in the Crusader.

TWIN-AXLE stability is always a major attraction for people who tow big distances and who value a caravan that’s less likely to give you a problem if you have to tow in high winds.

With Crusaders you have the additional security of chassismaker BPW’s stability control, known as iDC (Intelligent Drive Control).

The gas-bottle compartment door is pale grey, metallic-look – very classy, and wide enough to give excellent access, so that lifting gas bottles in and out is an easy task.

This special-edition Diamond Jubilee Supersirocco’s looks are enhanced by simple red graphics – and a red diamond shaped logo to remind you that this model is a special edition, created to mark the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. The red diamond shape on the exterior is only a small clue to what you find inside. These Crusaders are transformed, with brilliant white head-height lockers and dark brown woodwork.

The seating is upholstered in a fabric called Aquaclean, designed to be stain-resistant. The fabric colours are different from those in the main Crusader range; these are plain pale fawn, with pale cream striped curtains and hues of green in floral cushions.

CARAVAN LAYOUT

The Supersirocco’s layout gives you a double bed with dressing area alongside (mirror, cabinet and mains power socket) plus a wardrobe which has two rails, both aligned transversely.

A single shelf runs across the back and side walls of the wardrobe, giving a lot of surface space – but getting at items on this shelf would involve reaching under garments hanging in the wardrobe; not a problem, though, if everything hanging here is fairly short in length. Below the shelf is a vast area for shoes.

SHOWERING

The shower room is across the rear of the caravan. A towel rail is just in the right position to take advantage of the heat rising from an outlet for warmth from the Alde heating system. The granite-effect washbasin is a contemporary design, sitting on top of a cabinet, rather than being inset into the surface.

STORAGE

Storage in every area of the Supersirocco is generous. For starters, there’s the cavernous area under the bed, with access through an exterior hatch, that’s large enough to push in folding chairs. There are four drawers in the centre-front unit. Access to the storage areas under the settees is easy; full-length doors hinge down and, on the offside, you can gain access from outside.

KITCHEN

Kitchen accommodation comes in the form of two drawers, a wide and tall cupboard beneath them, and a second cabinet with two substantial metal pull-out shelves to the right of the oven.

An additional cabinet is in a unit opposite the kitchen, which also houses the microwave above a tower fridge freezer. Usefully, you can remove the freezer and leave it at home if you value space for chilling food rather than freezing it. A delightful refinement is hidden away behind the cabinet that extends forward to form the division between the kitchen and the bedroom.

Here you’ll find clips for six wine glasses and, deep at the back of the cabinet, a wine rack to hold four bottles. Three burners plus a mains hotplate give you cooking options.

LOUNGING

Long settees, so plenty of space, and the look of this lounge benefits from the Diamond Jubilee décor. Fabric is treated to make it resistant to marks.

DINING

You have the choice of a freestanding table for four or a pull-out table-top for two.

SLEEPING

The settees are long enough to make single beds for all but very tall people. Making the double bed involves sliding out slats that are joined together with webbing straps. Each slat is anchored to the groove in which they run, so there is no risk of any of them slipping out as you pull them out or push them back in. But there's no bed-making unless there are four aboard. The mattress is deep and comfy.

TOWING

The extra stability of twin axles has to win extra marks. And this one has the iDC system to quickly detect and correct any signs of sway.

At £24,599 this model is pretty much top bracket. You get what you pay for, and the Supersirocco Diamond Jubilee won’t disappoint you.
