The Aruba has three distinct sleeping areas. There’s a double bed at the rear, with the shower room alongside it. There’s a super-sized double bed to create in the lounge – or two single beds, if you prefer. And in the centre, a double bed to convert from the wide, wrap-around dining area.

Buccaneers are eight feet wide, and you appreciate the extra width in all areas.

If four are aboard, you can keep either the central dining area or the lounge in day-mode, so you don’t have to put away beds in order to create a breakfast area. And all the time you are cocooned in the luxury of not only Alde heating but underfloor heating, which works in synergy with the heating system.

And there’s more. Buccaneers have the E&P LevelSystem, which levels the caravan in two minutes in response to the touch of a button on the handset or the control panel by the door. Giant axle stands level it sideways, then heavy-duty corner steadies lower to make the caravan level from front to back.

ATC stability control, a 100-watt solar panel, a 40-litre water tank, an extractor fan, a clothes dryer in the shower cubicle, wheel locks, an Aquasource connector so that you can take water directly from a tap on your pitch, plus an external shower are all part of the kit. And if your want leather upholstery you can have that, too, for an extra cost.

Buccaneer caravans, like all of the caravans made by the Erwin Hymer Group in County Durham, are made using a fully bonded technique called SoLiD, which stands for Strong, Light and Dry. They also have a GRP underskin to provide a water resistant barrier.

Verdict

The Aruba is the epitome of family caravanning luxury. It’s not just a caravan to which to aspire as you climb the ladder of luxury and spec each time you change your caravan, as many people do.

This is a caravan to tempt discerning families into caravanning at the top end; those who may be accustomed to renting super-luxury apartments, lodges or boutique hotel rooms and who now seek the same level of luxury in a form that enables them to take their own luxurious home-from-home anywhere.
