Exploring the living space in the six-berth Bailey Pegasus Ancona, it seems so spacious that it’s hard to believe it rides on only one axle. Its clever layout creates separate living areas – perfect for busy families.
The Ancona’s unique layout separates the triple-bunk children’s sleeping area from the central kitchen-dining area – and keeps the lounge apart from the rest of the caravan.
The triple bunk stack is in the offside rear corner, almost out of sight from the lounge, so when the children are in bed, it’s as much like having them in their own bedroom as you’ll ever get in a caravan.
The dining area is on the nearside – and it’s wide enough for four children to sit and eat (or play). That means they stay out of the lounge when you want them to; they have their own space. It also means that the single bed that makes up here is as wide as one you’d have at home.
The third factor that creates this separate-compartment layout is the cabinet that divides the dining area from the lounge. Because it’s exactly opposite the end of the kitchen it forms a clear division between the two rooms.
If you place your television on top of this cabinet, you can position it to face the lounge or the dining area.
This is a caravan ideal for a family of widely-spaced ages. That’s because the dining area bed is full adult length and full domestic-bed width – and the base bunk is at ground level, which makes it ideal for very young children, for whom rolling out of a bed has to be prevented – if they roll out of this bunk, they simply roll onto the floor, at the same level.
The Ancona’s test tow demonstrated extraordinarily well-balanced characteristics – we think that’s because of the even distribution of furniture layout that this layout creates. It towed almost as stably as a twin-axle caravan – and, with the AL-KO ATC stability system as standard, this impressed us as among the best single axle caravans we’ve ever towed.
