Full Review

The Sky is the latest model from Leeds-based luxury van conversion company, Vantage. Not only does it incorporate a four-travel-seat layout (as also seen in the new Rio) but it features a really rare feature in this class of ’van – a drop-down double bed. The Sky Bed comes down over the rear lounge and offers lengthways sleeping. It measures 1.52m to 1.70m long, with a width of 1.22m.

Below the drop-down bed, the new Vantage has the company’s usual U-shaped rear lounge, which makes into a second (larger) double bed, or twin singles (1.90m and 1.78m long). A fifth berth can be created in the front lounge, where a transverse single bed stretches the tape measure to 1.85m by 0.61m.

The Sky, like all Vantage motorhomes, is based on the Fiat Ducato, here in extra-long wheelbase form and with the new 140bhp engine as standard. Unusually, though, the new model is based on the extra-high ‘H3’ van in order to have sufficient headroom to accommodate the roof bed.

Cab spec features driver and passenger airbags, a leather steering wheel, carpet and height-adjustable seats as standard, while base vehicle options include cab air-conditioning, cruise control, reversing sensors, alloy wheels, sat-nav and metallic paint.

In the habitation area, the Sky has a comprehensive kitchen with three-burner hob, oven and grill, a waist-height fridge/freezer, worktop extension flap and waste bin. The living area has Grade III insulation and a gas/electric blown-air heating system, while both fresh (90-litre) and waste (70-litre) water tanks are insulated. A 25-litre underslung gas tank and a roof-mounted 100W solar panel are also provided in the spec.

If you like the layout and design of the Sky but don’t need the drop-down bed, also see the new Rio (from £63,630) which has the same floorplan in the lower ‘H2’ Fiat panel van.
