Full Review
Scarborough-based Greenline has joined the van conversion slide-out club with its Renault-based 484.
The Greenline features a rear slide-out made entirely from aluminium which weighs the same as the doors it replaces. Viewed from the outside, the 0.8m extension sits square and level in its aperture. The top is domed to ensure water runs off and the joints are meticulously sealed.
The original barn door hinges have been kept so that a swing-away bike rack can be fitted. Below the slide-out there’s a hatch to a storage locker.
Slide-out aside, Greenline has gone for an understated look. Parked in the street it would pass for a smart MPV.
As you enter, the fourth travel seat partly blocks the door, and the lounge bench seat that extends out with the slide-out to become a bed, is positioned behind this. On the test 'van an optional tambour door cupboard at the end of the bench reduces seating space to one and a half people.) This makes the living area cramped. The cab bench seat does however turn to face the living area. If you can make do with the three standard travel seats, a lot of space will be freed up.
As it stands, the slide-out doesn’t add to the interior space in day mode. There are plans to change this.
Staying with day mode for the moment, the test model’s kitchen has a high-spec Triplex oven/grill and hob (a £250 option) in place of the standard hob. The oven is a serious bit of equipment for a small campervan.
Kitchen storage is good, too, with four cupboards and a shelf above. The cupboard below the oven is just the right size for a small chemical loo.
The bench folds down into the slide-out section and this campervan’s interior grows dramatically. Nearly half the bed is accommodated in the slide-out. The bed is very comfortable, and a good size at 1.93m by 1.17m. If you need further beds, the fourth travel seat becomes a single (1.75m by 0.60m). But a better bet would be the optional roof bed that’s a decent 1.40m wide.
Our Verdict
A slide-out in a small campervan is a great idea, but bulky options and no access to the extra storage during the day limit this model’s overall usefulness.
Advantages
Lightweight slide-out improves room
Super spec kitchen
Disadvantages
Interior feels cramped
No access to slide-out during the day
