Park Review: Woodlands Country Park

A complexity of lakes and manicured gardens creates a beautiful oasis of tranquillity close to the market town of Garstang in the Lancashire countryside

An imposing fountain-and-lake-entrance sets the scene of magnificence as you approach this elegant lodge park. Further on, as we explore, we reach huge, elaborate wrought iron gates. We walk a little further and discover another lake, this time large and overlooked by several luxury lodges. Plots are spacious and beautifully tended. In five minutes we’ve got the clear impression that Woodlands Country Park is a prestigious location.

The park, set in 45 acres, is open all year.

Lakefront and woodland plots are all set at differing angles. Our walk around the park takes us to another lake, this time with lodges whose plots reach down to the lake edge. Some have terraces extending right down to the water.

Tall reeds and ducks punctuate the scene. There’s an air of magnificence here – and tranquility. We find a tiny lake surrounded by flowers and small trees as we watch fish rise among the lilies. The only sound is birdsong.

This complexity of lakes, manicured gardens and beautiful lodges creates a laid back luxury lifestyle. Amenities? Just nature – and a surprise: a ladies’ and gents’ hair salon by the gated entrance!

Lodges

Lodges can be tailored to individual tastes in every detail. You can choose either classic timber-clad exteriors or modern contemporary designs. A wide selection of fixtures, fittings and finishes is available, and even bespoke interior layouts; you can make your lodge your own at Woodlands.

Lodges are insulated to a high standard for year-round use. Plots are on a 125-year lease.

Some pre-owned lodges are available, at prices around £137,500 to £185,000. Currently, among them is a two-bedroomed lodge at £137,500. It’s a 40ft x 20ft lodge with a utility room, a sunroom and a box-room in addition to the two bedrooms, on a large plot with parking space for three cars, plus a generous garden.

There’s also a three-bedroomed lodge, at £140,000, 34ft x 20ft, with a conservatory, on a large corner plot with its own pretty pond.

A two-bedroomed, 55ft x 20ft lodge, at £185,000, with a study and a utility room, sits on the edge of a lake. There’s a hot tub on the decking; luxury living indeed!

The ethos behind the park

Woodlands was created over 25 years ago by William Lowcock, who had a vision of a very special place of peace and quiet, beauty and tranquillity, a community of like-minded people who shared a common goal of laid-back, luxury living in stunning surroundings. He lived locally and knew the benefits of living in the country, surrounded by nature, and he wanted to make that lifestyle available to others by creating a relaxing rural retirement park. He created one of Britain’s finest lodge parks.

Location

The character market town of Garstang is only four miles away, a pleasing place in which to browse shops or visit a supermarket. For city needs, Preston is only half an hour’s drive away. Days out? You can be in the Lake District in an hour, and the Yorkshire Dales in about the same time. That is, if you ever want to leave the beauty of Woodlands Country Park!

Even though the park is within easy distance of a raft of towns and places to visit, it’s deliciously remote. When you leave the M6 at junction 32 and follow the A6 to Garstang, you then drive along quiet lanes – the scenery is lovely and the laid-back location is alluring.
