Park Review: Willow Park & Killarney Park

3bdc3794-e713-4b91-b31d-d81c5469c54c

Willow Park has a refreshing new character. That’s because its development began quite recently – in 2012. But this park goes back a lot further; it was once a holiday home park and now, with park homes arranged around lake shores, Willow Park – named after the lovely willow trees here – is taking on a mature foliar personality, with shrubs and bushes carefully chosen to suit the soil conditions and positioned to enhance each plot’s shape.

The stunning aspect of Willow Park is water, where ducks quack and glide and large carp rise, open-mouthed, hoping for food. The best use is being made of the lakes with decking for some homes designed specifically to reach out over the water’s edge. All of the decking is designed by Alex Kellam, one of Killarney Parks’ directors, and constructed by the parks’ own carpenter. He has also been busy constructing another element of Willow Park: raised beds for the park’s allotments! Residents are welcome to simply use the allotments – no fees, nothing formal, just dig in and grow!

Willow Park currently has four showhomes, a Stately-Albion Windsor, a Stately-Albion Woburn, a Prestige Homeseeker Avanti and a Prestige Homeseeker Residence.

All of the homes here are bespoke, with fabric, exterior colours and sometimes even layouts changed, to suit particular plots.Homes here start at around £180;000; there’s a good size variation. The smallest home is 38ft x 22ft; the largest that could fit on selected plots would be 48ft or 50ft x 22ft. All are two-bedroom homes. All have utility rooms.

Willow Park is within easy distance of the A1, train lines and A46. It’s on the edge of the village of Calverton, which has a supermarket, leisure centre, golf course, newsagents, post office, pubs and restaurants, plus necessities including a chemist, a doctors’ surgery. Calverton is on a bus route to Nottingham.

Killarney Park

Killarney Park is a well-established estate of 149 homes set in 35 acres of woodland. It’s in Bestwood Village, seven miles from Nottingham city centre.

Some pre-owned homes are for sale here, sold privately through independent estate agents, and plots are available here, too.

Residents can enjoy the best of both worlds – the peacefulness of the countryside with the conveniences of modern day life nearby. The park runs a courtesy bus service with weekly trips to the local market town of Arnold plus regular visits to Nottingham and Mansfield.

The park has a clubhouse with a bar and lounge giving residents a place to relax and chat with neighbours. Activities are arranged throughout the year including bingo nights, arts and crafts classes, exercise clubs, Pétanque, darts and bird watching as well as supper evenings, lunch clubs, coffee mornings and themed party nights.

SHOWHOMES

Stately-Albion Windsor

This 46ft x 22ft show home overlooks the lake. The Windsor has a galley kitchen which leads to the dining room that forms an L-shape with the lounge; a feature here is a white fireplace with a stone-effect fire. The home has a utility room. The large master bedroom has sliding doors to a whole wall of wardrobes. The generously-sized en suite, with a large shower, is fully-tiled in a rock effect.

Stately-albion Woburn

In this 38ft x 22ft home the dining room is totally separate from the lounge. A stunning, large, triangular window, high up close to the ceiling, stretches the length of the dividing wall between the lounge and the dining room. It’s a unique feature which lets light penetrate to both rooms from each other.

Another Woburn hallmark is an angled wall on one corner of the lounge, where the fireplace sits. An alcove is above the fireplace, for media equipment. Floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides of the room ensures it’s very light.
Horizontally aligned feature tiles are a keynote of the bathroom.
