Park Home Review: Park Homes by Willerby - Charnwood

The Charnwood, one of Willerby’s three first steps into the residential homes market, makes a bold décor statement of dark blue, greys and white. This home will appeal to buyers with modern tastes.

Of the three new homes launched under the new brand Park Homes by Willerby, the 42ft x 20ft Charnwood is the mid-range option, with the Delamere sitting above it in terms of specification and luxury and the Hazelwood designed for affordability.

In term of layout, the Charnwood is effectively divided into two sections by the corridor which leads from the eye-catchingly smart dark grey front door with inset windows. The corridor leads across the home into the utility area and on, to the rear door. Two large cupboards, one with shelves, the other containing coat hooks, are in the hallway. Plenty of practicality, then!

Lounge-dining area

A clear division between the lounge and dining functions of the Charnwood will ensure its appeal to buyers who don’t favour complete open plan. The lounge is large, and the three box bay windows make it feel even more spacious. The windowsills are easily large enough to use as window seats, as I find out when I perch on one with the laptop to compose this review and instantly feel quite at home in the Charnwood.

Charnwood

The grey three-piece suite looks simply appealing against the pale grey backcloth; the walls are in two shades of grey – a slightly darker covering defines the wall that separates the lounge from the dining area and kitchen beyond.

It’s the dark blue curtains and cushions, though, that are the style statement of the Charnwood, with a bold embroidered pattern of leaves and twigs. Two pale copper shade pendant lights look gorgeous and significantly add to the striking styling that defines
the Charnwood.

The bold look of the Charnwood continues in the choice of furniture – the coffee table, large TV unit and dining table are heavy, high quality, dark oak. The whole scheme looks stunning. The dining chairs are low-backed, so they keep the feel of space and are deeply upholstered for maximum comfort. Plain feature radiators are a style feature. The whole look is one of quality as well as bold style.

Kitchen

You can upgrade the kitchen if you wish in any of the three Willerby park homes (take your choice from the Magnet range) but the standard choice in the Charnwood is a delight; matt pale grey units with chunky brushed steel handles. The four-burner hob has a brushed steel base and a pan trivet divided into two sections, for easy cleaning. A third, coronet-shaped trivet is here to sit on the largest burner which is designed for a wok – you can use or remove the coronet depending on the shape of the base of your wok. A glass splash-back sits behind the hob.

Charnwood

The Charnwood’s kitchen is well planned, with three distinct areas. The whole cooking function is on one side of the kitchen, with the oven-grill to the left of the hob and main work surface. Opposite, the sink is flanked by more surface area. A dishwasher is on this side of the kitchen, plus three large cupboards and two wall cabinets. In total this kitchen has five lower cupboards and five top cabinets plus more storage in a utility area. Here, a washing machine and fridge freezer are disguised within a wall of cabinets. There’s more work surface here; the Charnwood’s surface and storage area is very generous.

Bedrooms and bathroom

The blue theme that establishes the character of the Charnwood as you step into the lounge makes a bold statement in the bedrooms, too.

In the master bedroom, with a large shower en suite and two large wardrobes, the bedhead is wallpapered in soft dark blue with a slightly raised pattern that catches the light from the four spotlights that focus down on the bedhead area.

The bedhead is upholstered in brighter blue, velvet and gorgeous. The same fabric upholsters a large cube stool for the desk-style dressing table. White and blue curtains, bed sash and cushions compete the ultra modern, luxurious look.

The other bedroom has a walk-in dressing room with two rails, upper shelving and five shelves along one side – very spacious. The same blue wall-covering as in the main bedroom is here, this time teamed with white. The whole effect is stunning. We love the box-bay window in this room – the perfect place to perch with your morning coffee.

The bathroom, with circular plinth washbasin and cabinet with mirrored doors, is fully tiled with a matt pale grey finish. Everywhere you look in the Charnwood the over riding message is modernity, style and quality of finish.
