Holiday Home Review: Wessex Summerhouse

With pebbles, driftwood-reclaimed furniture style and white teamed with bold blue, the Summerhouse crafts a beachside theme in every area

Wessex has a portfolio of eight holiday lodges, all of distinctive architectural styling. The Summerhouse is arguably among the most stunning and certainly one to consider if you fancy a holiday home that has a fresh, bright seaside theme. A perfect holiday environment!

The fresh look starts with the exterior colour. Our review example is clad in ‘mist grey’ CanExel (other colours and cladding options are available). It’s a subtle, essentially modern shade which serves to emphasise the white frames to the unusual stepped front window design; the French door section is slightly recessed from the line created by the floor-to-ceiling windows alongside.

Inside, the light and airy beachy theme is created by white panelled, vaulted ceilings and partly panelled walls, sea blues and furniture which has a reclaimed, almost driftwood look.

Living area

Summerhouse Living Area

The layout of the living area has an open-plan aspect, with the lounge almost integrated with the dining area, yet each with its own character, and the kitchen, large and L-shaped, occupying the sector opposite the lounge area. This area is fitted with a DAB radio and Bluetooth sound system with ceiling speakers.

The kitchen furniture is white, ‘Amalfi Legno’ style, with soft close doors and drawers and an ‘Axiom Shadow Oak’ worktop.

Summerhouse Kitchen

All of the kitchen appliances are high-end, befitting the Summerhouse’s top quality status. Integrated branded appliances include a washing machine, dishwasher, single electric oven, microwave, fridge-freezer and ceramic hob with extractor hood.

The dining furniture epitomises the reclaimed seaside wood theme; it’s in a style called ‘Rowico Saltash’ – and the table extends, making it perfect for entertaining.

Pebbles and driftwood are features of the wall-mounted fire, reinforcing the seaside look. Two big, bold blue sofas and a subtle turquoise pattern in the white curtains underline the ocean statement that flows right through the home into the bedrooms.

Bedrooms

Summerhouse Bathroom

The large main bedroom has a splendid layout, with a part-wall concealing a bath, shower and dressing area. Seaside styling is created by the use of blue and white.

There’s also a family bathroom, with an over-bath shower.

The nautical look is in the second, twin-bed room, too; here in the form of white and blue vertical striped curtains and blue and white sliding wardrobe doors.

The Summerhouse is available in a range of standard floor plans from 40ft x 20ft to 50ft x 22ft.
