Holiday Home Review: Lissett Homes - Linden Cottage

f6ed49e5-5147-4538-9283-4f3badfe5e9b

The new Linden Cottage offers a bold, modern approach to country cottage style living.

It has a more open-plan layout than its predecessor models. The kitchen is larger; the lounge is immense – perfect for entertaining!

Kitchen

The kitchen has plain matt cappuccino-shade work surfaces. There are hints of grey in the décor, creating a softly modern look – and there’s a lot of space.

All of the appliances are Bosch. There’s a five-burner hob (the centre one is designed for a wok), a double oven, a microwave in a separate area, and a dishwasher with an ‘open-assist’ door which opens automatically when you touch the handle; Lissett does luxury in no small measure!

A corner carousel cabinet makes the best use of storage space. And, above it, a double-hinged door in a corner cabinet is an inventive touch.

Soft-close doors and drawers add to the sophistication and luxury of this kitchen. The sink is inset to the work surface – so refined and stylish!

At the entrance to the kitchen sits a breakfast bar area with stools; we pause there briefly during our review – everywhere you can hear the Linden Cottage’s surround sound system. This home takes super-luxury to a new level!

Dining area

The dining area is open plan, with a superbly-designed, huge Italian pendant light above an amazing pale wood table and sumptuously upholstered chairs. This dining furniture is made in Vietnam. It has an oiled oak finish; a mix of oils is used to seal the wood and create a unique, smooth finish. The dresser cabinet, amazing in style with a hint of tradition, is also made in Vietnam. A large display area and capacious lower cabinets create practicality as well as a piece of furniture to be noticed.

Lounge

The décor of this room is very restful. Floor-to-ceiling windows and bi-fold doors are dressed with fine-fabric Harlequin velvet curtains in dark turquoise.

As we explore the lounge we discover the hub of the surround sound that reaches all areas of the Linden Cottage: a media appliance cabinet is hidden away above an inset log-effect fire; all cables are out of sight.

The deep-pile carpet, sitting on 10mm-thick underlay, has an exceptionally soft feel – and there’s more than meets the eye about this carpet. It’s made of 100% polypropylene, so it can be washed with diluted bleach! That’s one of the surprises in this home.

Hallway

The 20ft x 50ft Linden Cottage has an entrance hall with a recessed console table and a cloaks area with shelves. Along the corridor from here is a large cabinet where the heating system is housed, plus a further cupboard – this home’s storage capacity and practicality is impressive.

Bathroom

Opposite is the bathroom, with a tall, matt steel heated towel ladder. Touch-control light illuminates the mirror. The basin is made by Swiss brand Laufen. The bath is the P-shaped style, with an over-bath shower. Tiling is by Porcelanosa.

Our exploration now takes us to the study, with an L-shaped suite of desk and cabinets, built by Lissett; this company is renowned for its high standard of furniture-making.

The main bedroom is enormous. It has a five-feet-wide bed with a tall headboard, buttoned for luxurious style. Velvet curtains are in very fine grey with a silvery sheen.

The dressing table is made in Vietnam. Two bedside cabinets are in the same style, all finished in mist grey and beautifully crafted.

Wardrobe space is massive, in two areas of the bedroom.

The en suite, with floor-to-ceiling grey tiles, has a large shower area with both a drench and directional shower.

The second bedroom, which features a deep window, also has beautiful velvet curtains, this time in palest pink, with a bedhead to match, also with silvery areas in the pattern.

Our tour of the impressive new Linden Cottage complete, managing director Justin Beharrell takes us outside to point out yet more stunning features of this home. The shutters that define two of the windows are a new feature, together with an over-door canopy, in dark bramble colour. And there’s a surprise. On one end of the home is a vertical style feature. It looks like wood – even at close inspection, but it’s actually made of a concrete composite. Unusual features are everywhere, both inside and outside the new Linden Cottage.
