FITRITE is the name of a PVCu decking system developed by Sash UK. The company has been around since 1965, when it began life making timber window frames. During the years 1985 to 1995 it expanded into manufacturing PVCu windows, and it was then only a short step to the development of Fitrite PVCu decking and fencing, which happened about five years ago.

Fitrite decking is manufactured from patented cellular PVCu, which is claimed to have the feel and warmth of wood but without the associated maintenance requirements such as the need to paint or stain it. Colours available are silver birch; maple, and warm beech.


GUARANTEE

The company states that the Fitrite plank is stronger and more durable than the equivalent timber plank, is waterproof, and comes with a 10-year warranty – plus a further five year insurance-backed guarantee when installed by one of the company’s approved installers.

Importantly, Fitrite is fire resistant and self-extinguishes when exposed to flames.

The planks have grooved edges for use with the company’s stainless steel Fitclip® locking system. I should also mention that a galvanised steel sub-frame for use with the decking has been developed, too. This however, is an optional extra.

If a wooden sub-frame is used it is manufactured from tanalised timber to ensure a long and trouble-free life, providing it is properly maintained.


APPROVED

From the company’s HQ in Grimethorpe, Barnsley, Fitrite is available throughout the UK. But, importantly, the company does not deal direct with the public, only though its network of approved installers.

As a result, I was not able to obtain any indication of a ball-park price for the two examples of decking that we submitted to the various companies.

Having said that, Fitrite does have an extremely good website, which gives plenty of information to enable the homeowner thinking about installing decking, to assess the company and its products.
