Tingdene Parks - homes by the sea at Hazelgrove Residential Park in North Yorkshire

844d7d11-4b41-4542-85f1-416f1e6fa17f

If you yearn for sea air, open countryside and to be away from towns and cities – we may have found just the place for you.

Stroll along the beautiful beach and stop for fish and chips on the pier. Head to the farmer’s market or take in a night of jazz at one of the local bars. A hive of activity in summer, and a blend of cosy cafes and brisk walks in winter, you can enjoy Saltburn 365 days a year.

A new phase of 25 homes is now taking place at Hazelgrove Residential Park, a short walk from Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Show homes are due to arrive at this park, which is owned by the Tingdene Parks group.

Saltburn-by-the-Sea has magical appeal. As a resort, it has its origins in the village of Old Saltburn; during the time that industry was developing in Middlesbrough, 10 miles away, people sought somewhere away from all of that in which to spend their leisure time. By the late 1800s, Saltburn ranked with Harrogate as a fashionable place to be.

The town retains much of its Victorian charm and character. There’s a quaint – and fascinating – cliff lift funicular that takes you from the clifftop town to Saltburn Pier (Yorkshire’s only pier) and beach, 36 metres below. Historic documents describe the first cliff lift, constructed in the 1870s, as being made of wood, stabilised by guy ropes; a cage could carry 20 people up or down the cliff. It was replaced, in the 1880s, by a 71% incline funicular cliff lift that uses the water tank counterbalance principle… Intriguing stuff. There are opportunities to delve into more of the history of the area, at the ironstone mining museum, too.

The Cleveland Way, a walking trail that leads from the market town of Helmsley, across the North York Moors to reach the sea, passes close to Hazelgrove Park, following a path up to Huntcliff, the site of a Roman Signal Station. This is a coastline of dramatic views and is part of the 36 miles of North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast. Seabirds to watch, moors to explore, market towns, Saltburn’s shingle and sand beach, its pier and promenade… it’s all here on your doorstep from this beautifully maintained park.
