Residential Park Profile: Otter Valley Park

6fa9609b-36b0-4ebb-88ce-58eee010484b

Less than a mile from the delightful town of Honiton, in south Devon, sits Otter Valley Park, amid lovely countryside and not far from the coast. This prestige park currently has three new homes for sale, plus two homes that have been completely refurbished.

They’re all sited on landscaped plots, with a large decking area, a storage shed, a garden area and parking space alongside.

Honiton’s historic fame lies in lacemaking. Lace is a major feature of the town’s museum; lace has been made in Honiton for 400 years. The tradition is continued in the form of a weekly lacemaking class – and lacemaking still goes on commercially, albeit in a small way; you can buy Honiton lace from specialist shops.

Today, Honiton is also well known as an antiques centre, with a large number of antiques shops to explore.

The Otter Valley lifestyle: a slower and easier pace

Residents, Stella and Barry Swanton, who moved to Otter Valley from Hertfordshire in 2019, explain why they love the Otter Valley lifestyle:

“The park feels like a small community, rather than some of the very large parks that we looked at in our search for a new home. Compared to where we used to live, everything runs at a much slower and easier pace. Although it has been a strange year because of the Covid-19 restrictions, we have made many new friends among our neighbours."

Asked if they had any advice for people who are thinking about moving to a residential park, the couple said: “Think hard, research, research, research and GO FOR IT!”

Homes for sale

Made by Oakgrove, a 45ft by 22ft luxurious home bespoke-created for the park is for sale at £220,000. It’s on a spacious plot and has a large lounge and dining area with a vaulted ceiling and double French doors opening onto a large decking area. The separate kitchen has an eye-level, fan-assisted oven, an integrated fridge-freezer, a dishwasher and a wine cooler. A utility area leads off the kitchen, with a washing machine and door to the garden.

Another bespoke home made by Oakgrove is available, at £224,000, this time 46ft by 22ft, with similar specification, a slightly larger lounge and different colours and styling. They’re both awesomely gorgeous – take your choice!

The third new home is an Oakgrove Waverton, offered at a special price of £198,000, reduced from £210,000 and with the first year’s pitch fee, £2,940, included in the price. This 40ft by 20ft home, like the other two, has a vaulted ceiling and French doors leading from the lounge-dining room. It also has a utility room.

If you fancy a fully refurbished park home, Otter Valley has two of those, too. Both made by Omar, one is a Sheringham model, 42ft by 20ft, at £174,000; the other is a Southdown, 36ft by 20ft, at £154,000. Both have beautiful new kitchens and bathrooms. Interestingly, although new park homes come fully furnished, these two refurbished homes are not furnished, so are ideal if you are looking for a park home in which to bring your own furnishings.
