Our guide to holiday homes for all budgets

Leisure time is precious; we all work hard to get it, both in terms of time and money

So we want to spend it wisely, and many of us want luxury. So it’s not surprising that luxury holiday homes are a major force in the holiday home sector.

Holiday homes to buy come in a wide range of sizes, layouts and styles; something to suit everyone is out there waiting to be discovered as buyers search for their perfect luxury, elite holiday home.

What makes a luxury holiday home?

Large, maybe. With a superbly appointed kitchen, maybe. And bedrooms and en suites that are up there with the best in boutique-style hotels, maybe.

However you define luxury as a buyer, there are plenty of premium holiday homes out there from which to choose.

Large, luxury holiday homes are in all manufacturers’ ranges. These are usually defined as lodges, being 20ft or 22ft wide, as distinct from holiday homes that are mostly 12 to 14ft wide.

Equipment in luxury holiday homes can include a range cooker and a wine cooler, plus a dishwasher and washing machine; home comforts plus luxury, then. Sumptuous lounge furniture, comfortable dining suites, a breakfast bar, perhaps… it’s all in the definition of what makes a luxury holiday home.

How do you work out your budget?

Just as with a holiday home at any price level, working out your budget can initially seem to be quite confusing – because the prices that you see on the websites of some holiday home manufacturers are not the prices that the buyer pays.

Added to those listed prices is the cost of transport to a park, the cost of siting on a park, plus the installation of services (water, waste water, electricity and connection to gas cylinders). In addition, the park’s profit margin is added on.

So the best way to work out your budget is to start your search for holiday home prices on parks’ websites, where you will find the actual cost of individual park homes. Where the parks’ websites don’t contain all of the details of each holiday home for sale, go to the manufacturer’s websites to glean more information.

Examples of luxury holiday homes

Among some of the best examples of luxury holiday homes are those in the ranges of Omar, Pathfinder and Victory Leisure Homes. These are three of the manufacturers that specialise in large, luxury holiday homes/lodges.

Omar, based in Suffolk, makes 19 luxury lodges including one with a roof terrace. One of the most popular perhaps sums up the Omar offering best. It’s the Kingfisher.

The Kingfisher was initially launched in 1992 and has since undergone many décor changes. Now, the Kingfisher defines luxury with a palette of cool greys and warm browns, a sumptuous lounge suite of two sofas and an armchair upholstered in a tactile cream fabric, and a generously proportioned kitchen with a marble-effect worksurface.

It’s modern – and its elegant. A multitude of elements in the interior design blend to create this impressive large luxury holiday home. Among eye-catching features is the magnificent fireplace, finished in grey vertical panelling and reaching to the ceiling. A wide, log-effect fire sits in a black frame.

Another good example of a large, luxury lodge from Omar is the Heron. This lodge has a bedroom at each end, a huge, open-plan lounging-cooking-eating area in the centre – and immense luxury everywhere.

Pathfinder Homes is based in Devon and makes a large range of luxury lodges. One, though, arguably best illustrates the luxury offering from Pathfinder. It is called La Belle Maison.

The name gives a strong clue to the fact that styling has a French influence. Super-comfortable lounge seating, classic in style, and a kitchen that benefits from a rack suspended from the ceiling, for hanging utensils, are features of this luxury holiday home.

Victory Leisure Homes’ flagship lodge, the Franklin, is a superb example of a luxury lodge. This 40ft by 20ft lodge has a dining area capable of seating six, an ultra-cosy lounge with a stunning log-effect ‘fire’ and marble kitchen surfaces. The main bedroom’s en suite continues the stylish luxury theme, with an oval bath and a mirror that has inset touch-control lighting.

How to find holiday homes for sale

You will find holiday homes for sale on holiday parks; search websites of parks in areas where you might be interested in buying, and you are sure to find luxury holiday homes for sale.

Many parks can source luxury holiday homes and lodges of any make, so you might be able to choose your plot and then ask the park operator to source a specific luxury holiday home.

Manufacturers have showgrounds on which you may find luxury holiday homes on display, among these are Victory Leisure Homes, the Omar Group, Willerby and Pathfinder.
