Holiday Home Design: Creating an ABI holiday home

61e070d1-a12f-4327-b830-afb4f9680d6b

From 'mood board' to drawing board and on to the craftsmen – how ABI's holiday homes and lodges are created

It's more than 40 years since ABI began making holiday homes. That's four decades of honing craftsmanship expertise, of innovation and inspiration gleaned from a vast pool of influences.

Today, ABI produces a range of 12 holiday homes, in various price ranges, at its base in Beverley in East Yorkshire. And now, the company has produced its first luxury lodge, called the Harrogate.

This is how they are produced...

From the first sketches to the last screw put in place, every element of an ABI holiday home is subject to meticulous attention to detail. The process of making ABI's range of holiday homes starts with the talented in-house design team.

From 'mood board'…

Taking the latest interior design trends and combining them with customer feedback and the up-to-the-minute technical innovations, the team first set about creating what is termed 'mood boards' for each model.

This is where they get the chance to try out varying colour and texture combinations as well as concepts for how best to use the space, long before finalising the model.

… to virtual holiday homes…

Once the design team members are happy with their concepts for each model, virtual representations of how each model may look are created, using 3D software. This is where the team members to refine their design, with the ability to carefully change interior elements and layout.

… to refined design…

When the 3D visuals are complete and the designs refined, it's time to bring them out of the virtual world and into the real world. Engineers build full-size prototypes of every model, allowing the team to assess how the space, furnishings and design all interact together and, if necessary, make amendments.

… to the drawing board…

When the team is fully satisfied will the prototypes, they move into the technical stage of the process. Here, the draughtsmen begin the task of converting the physical prototype into detailed and precise drawings.

These intricate drawings allow each model to begin the journey from a concept to a fully-fledged and engineered production holiday home.

… then the craftsman set to work…

craftsmen

Once at the production stage, each holiday home is meticulously handmade by a team of skilled craftsmen at the company's production facility in East Yorkshire.

It's their expertise and years of experience that ensure every ABI holiday home is brought to life precisely and to the specifications set by the design and technical teams.

… and finally: quality control

quality control

Quality control is something on which the ABI team prides itself. Every holiday home that comes off the production line is thoroughly inspected to ensure it meets the exceptional standards the team has set, before receiving the ABI seal of approval.

Then and only then will it be delivered to a customer, so it not only meets their expectations, but exceeds them in every way.
