Editor’s pick: the top holiday park of June 2020 – Wenningdale Escapes, North Yorkshire

The Editor of Park and Holiday Home Inspiration magazine has named Wenningdale Escapes in North Yorkshire as the magazine's top holiday park of June 2020.

Few places anywhere in Britain can rival the awesome, far-reaching views from Wenningdale Escapes that take in Ingleborough, the second highest mountain in the Yorkshire Dales, famous for its almost flat top, and the rolling hills and spectacular dales that stretch out in all directions.

Amazing views are one reason why the Editor of Park and Holiday Home Inspiration magazine chose Wenningdale Escapes as the June 2020 issue’s top holiday park.

Another is the way the park has been carved out of the landscape, with generously sized plots that are well spaced and angled so that each one has its own, different view of the fantastic landscape of this beautiful, little-known region.

The nearby little town of Bentham sits at the junction of the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. It’s a pretty, stone-built, time-stood-still community of several eaterie-pubs and traditional shops. You could explore Bentham in an hour – and then keep going back to its charm.

Fascination (with a little legend mixed in) is all around you. Ingleton Waterfalls, at Kirkby Lonsdale, Ruskin’s View (described by poet John Ruskin  as ‘one of the loveliest views in England’ and Devil’s Bridge (now closed to traffic and steeped in folklore about the Devil having built it), White Scar Cave, the Settle-to-Carlisle steam railway, the Forest of Bowland, Hawes (home of Wensleydale cheese and Hardraw Force, England’s highest single drop waterfall) … It’s all laid out before you, a carpet of days-out possibilities from your lodge at Wenningdale Escapes.

Wenningdale (named after the River Wenning) is a paradise for walkers – and for golfers, with an 18-hole golf course on the park, plus an imaginatively-created family driving range.

Lodges, in a wide choice of styles, are here to be bought (prices start at £149,950) and, if you want to take your time to be convinced of the lure of this place, you can hire a luxury lodge – or a luxury pod – and immerse yourself in the beauty of Wenningdale for a few days.

Many of the lodges have glass and steel enclosed decking – that’s your shelter from the breeze while you barbecue, perhaps. And after dark? Alter the angle of your gaze, from the fabulous views, to the stars, for this region is far away from light pollution and has been granted official status as a Dark Sky Discovery Site.

Park and Holiday Home Inspiration magazine is published to help owners and buyers of both park and holiday homes to get the very best from their investment. You can get a copy of Park and Holiday Home Inspiration magazine here.
