It’s easily misunderstood. The term ‘Van’ in UK motorhoming parlance tends to be short for campervan and implies something panel van-based.
In Germany, however, a Van (note the capital) is usually a slimline coachbuilt motorhome. In the past, we’ve seen Hymer Vans, Hobby Vans, Dethleffs Globevan, etc, and a ‘V’ prefix in the Sunlight range stands for Van (as opposed to ‘T’ for teilintegriert, the German for low-profile models, which are 18cm wider).
But just because the Sunlight Van range represents smaller motorhomes (from 5.96m long and all only 2.14m wide) doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on important stuff like a big garage. And because there’s less bodywork here, there’s more payload – up to 686kg in standard spec.
The V 67 S is one of four ‘V’ models – one with a transverse rear double bed, two with lengthways singles and the fourth with an island bed. All are based on a 3,500kg Fiat Ducato chassis.
Extra Adventure spec
Unsurprisingly, the Adventure suffix on the name simply takes the standard mode and adds some extras. So, you get extra decals, an awning, a three-bike rack, additional cushions to turn the rear bedroom into a huge double, an overcab sunroof, a flyscreen for the door, panoramic rooflight, colour-coded bumper, black skid plate, 16in alloy wheels and a second garage door.
But, reassuringly, this motorhome still stays under £60k (currently, the Ready to Roll Deal has further reduced the list price by £1,200).
As standard, the Fiat cab comes with the 2.2-litre, 140hp engine and six-speed manual gearbox. It has cab air-conditioning, Traction Plus, heated mirrors, electronic stability control, hill holder, hill descent control, crosswind assist, trailer stability control and post-collision braking. Both cab seats have armrests and height adjustment, while M+S tyres are fitted.
Fiat options include the automatic gearbox (£2,770), electric parking brake (£530), full LED headlamps (£950), Safety Pack (£940) and Digital Package (£2,810).
Sunlight body with garage
The Sunlight bodywork features aluminium side walls and a GRP roof and rear wall (the roof and sides are 34mm thick, the floor is 42.5mm).
The windowless habitation door is equipped with a substantial grab handle and an electric step, while the large rear garage has a lowered frame, lashing points and internal lighting – it can carry up to 150kg. A seven-year water ingress warranty is there for peace of mind.
The layout is probably the most popular amongst these slimline continental motorhomes, so there’s a half-dinette lounge, central kitchen and washroom and, of course, the twin beds at the back.
Compared with the shorter single bed model, the V66, the main benefit is extra seating – a bigger lounge here includes a side settee facing the table from the offside. The standard Adventure upholstery can be swapped for Green Trail or Performance Grey at no extra cost.
Rear twin beds
Of course, a key reason for buying this style of motorhome is the single beds at the back, which are easily accessed via two central steps.
Each bed is 1.94m long (Sunlight’s figure) and there are overhead lockers and shelves at each side of the bedroom. The windows here have net curtains.
These aren’t the only beds, with a novelty this season being the very clever Easy fold single bed (a £690 option) that simply hinges down from the side wall in the lounge. Then, a fourth berth can be made from the seats (£300 extra).
Compact washroom
The practical washroom incorporates a swing wall for comfortable showering, but naturally there’s a compromise in fitting all these features into a compact package and the galley is rather klein.
It does have a flap to give you a modicum of worktop, though, and an oven can be added (£460 extra).
Another option that UK buyers will surely add is the mains element for the Truma Combi 6 heating (£610).
