Full Review
Sunlight, the budget brand from Dethleffs, offers a wide range of low-profile motorhomes (as well as campervans and A-classes), using Citroën, Fiat and Ford chassis. The Transit-based models were introduced for the 2024 model year and encompass the more compact T 670 S and island bed T 690 L, as well as the T 680 that we focus on here.
Based on Ford
Like its sister models, the 7.36m-long T 680 is based on a Ford chassis with 130hp motor and six-speed manual gearbox (165hp and automatic options available). It has a sporty appearance thanks to its black metallic cab and standard alloy wheels.
It also comes with all the kit – front parking sensors, rear view camera, electric parking brake, stop/start, an uprated front axle, wide rear axle, leather steering wheel and a 12in touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has all the safety systems – lane departure waring, pre-collision assist, fatigue warning, intelligent speed detection, automatic high beam control, hill start assist, crosswind assist, rollover protection, electronic stability program and electronic brake force distribution.
As the Chassis Pack is fitted as standard, you also get a painted front bumper, front fog lights and headlights with static cornering lights.
For an additional £1,980 you can add the Assistance Pack of traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, sat-nav and electrically folding mirrors.
Bodywork
The Sunlight body is finished in Smooth Silver to contrast nicely with the Obsidian Black cab and has aluminium side walls and a GRP roof and rear wall.
The roof and sides are 34mm thick, while the floor is 42.5mm. There are flush-fit habitation windows and an opening overcab sunroof, plus a flyscreen for the Comfort entrance door (with window), while the body is covered by a seven-year water ingress warranty.
The most important external feature for many will be the garage, which has large loading doors on either side and can carry up to 150kg. Total payload for the vehicle is just shy of half a tonne, before options.
Adventure spec means that you get a roll-out awning and a rear rack for three bikes included in the sub-£80k price tag.
Interior
Inside, the layout is a European staple – half-dinette lounge with a single extra side seat, central L-shaped galley, split washroom and rear single beds over the garage. The contemporary interior décor mixes Cozy Cottage furniture with Black Flow, Dyna White (top lockers) and Active Grey.
There are removable carpets over the Mountain Lodge flooring and the travel seats cater for kids with the standard fitment of Isofix. There are also net curtains and a wall-mounted table (with extension leaf) in the forward seating area.
To ensure your comfort on tour, the Sunlight comes with Truma’s Combi 6 E gas/230V blown-air heating and boiler with digital control panel, a 95Ah AGM maintenance-free leisure battery and a selection of USB ports to keep your devices charged. The gas locker can hold two 11kg cylinders, while fresh water capacity is 122 litres (inboard) and grey waste is 92 litres.
Kitchen and bedroom
The main kitchen unit is on the nearside and incorporates a two-burner hob as well as an oven. There’s a large round stainless-steel sink, while a rail system allows you to hang up a few kitchen accessories.
Opposite, the 156-litre fridge has a 29-litre freezer compartment and this two-door unit is mounted at floor level with useful open space and room for a telly above. Headroom here is up to 2.10m but this reduces to the rear as there’s a step up into the washroom and bedroom areas.
The rear singles are 2.12m and 2.05m long (manufacturer’s figures), while a front bed converted from the dinette and a drop-down double with Clima Plux sprung base are both options (priced at £340 and £1,560, respectively).
Our Verdict
Sunlight has built up a good reputation for solid build quality and practical design.
Adventure spec adds a bit more spec, while the move to a Ford cab adds driver appeal without changing the usual Sunlight recipe.
