Full Review

While they are not ‘entry-level’, Malibu motorhomes are the younger siblings to the more premium Carthago line-up. They have a different look, but a lot of the technology, underpinnings and design are adopted from their more expensive counterparts.

Lightweight and Comfort versions

The A-class Malibus have been redesigned for 2026 and have two new floorplans, this single bed model and the 480 which has an island bed. Both are offered on Fiat or Mercedes chassis and are also available in ‘lightweight’ 3.5-tonne form for those that only have a Class B car licence. The 4.2-tonne Comfort versions have more payload and more options.

Here is the Fiat-based Comfort model. Externally, it has a much more premium look than last year, with prominent Malibu branding on the grille with black surrounds to the headlights. The gloss back grille is part of the standard Chassis Comfort Package in the UK.

The garage is large, with rails along each side for lashing points. There are two big loading doors and a heater vent, light and a power socket.

New interior style

Inside there’s a new style of furniture with handleless concave locker doors which, optionally, run all the way around the cab instead of a drop-down bed. This £570 option adds 16kg to your payload.

The Chiaro style interior seen here is £595 extra and has wood with grey accents, while the standard Nomos has walnut wood with white upper lockers doors. Here, it’s the new Platinum part-leather upholstery.

One of the highlight features this year is the wood strip panel behind the side seat, with a matching panel on the washroom wall. Another nice touch is the ‘M’ logo on the coat hooks. With two travel seats, the lounge sofa has a slight L-shape. Note that the cab seats are at the same height as the lounge; better for relaxing and dining options.

The TV stores on the wall vertically but it can be then rotated for viewing at a sensible height (a £2,345 option).

Compact kitchen

The 133-litre fridge is opposite the compact kitchen. It opens from both sides. The hob (with cast iron pan stands) and sink are separate units but each with a split lid, allowing you to maximise worktop space.

The larger sink lid can become a shelf and there’s worktop between lounge and kitchen. A low-level oven is an option (£915) but will reduce storage. A slide-out coffee machine is another option (£280).

Bedroom and en suite

The washroom runs across the aisle, using the loo door to shut off the area from the front. Plus, there's a second sliding door to provide privacy from the bedroom.

The shower has a solid floor that matches the rest of the habitation area, but with a shower tray below. The toilet sits next to a countertop basin. The cupboard below includes a laundry basket and there’s a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe.

The single beds at the back have wardrobes under the foot end of each. At the head end, the mattresses lift up so you can actually sit up in bed, even though there are overhead cupboards.

These locker doors slope inwards slightly, increasing the feeling of space – there are two on either side, plus two at the back, along with USB (A and C) points and a mains socket.

Lighting comes from a spotlight for each person and ambient lighting under the headboard. There's a bedroom window on either side, a rooflight above, plus two further spotlights on each side and an aerial point at the base one of the beds so you could have a TV here.

The steps slide out, so, if you want to make this bed even bigger and fill in the gap between the singles, you don't have to mess about with a ladder.

Investigate other models from Malibu

We've reviewed other motorhomes from this Carthago sister brand.

Our Verdict

If you like a more contemporary interior, the Malibu is a great alternative to its parent brand. This larger model has space for long-term touring, so you’ll probably want the heavier chassis Comfort version – just watch the cost of optional extras.

Advantages
Sliding steps in the bedroom
Plenty of storage with double floor and garage
Choice of Fiat or Mercedes chassis

Disadvantages

Kitchen is compact relative to the size of motorhome
Options can quickly push up the price
Comfort model requires C1 driving licence
