Compact motorhome with a French bed layout

Full Review
If you’re looking for a fixed bed without having to drive a big motorhome, this Florium could be the answer – even as an alternative to a campervan. It’s only 6cm longer than the longest Ducato panel van, while also measuring 12cm slimmer than a typical coachbuilt. We’re highlighting the Baxter here but you can have the same layout and specification (at the same price) with a more traditional look inside the Fleurette Migrateur range.
Both Florium and Fleurette brands are part of the Rapido Group but built at their own site close to La Rochelle. The company says it is the only manufacturer in Europe offering 100% polyester bodywork across all of its coachbuilt vehicles, while the (hail-resistant) roof, overcab and rear panels are bonded on, overlapping the side walls. It uses 30mm of XPS Styrofoam insulation in the walls and floor and, for 2026, there’s a redesigned rear, along with restyled skirts and new graphics.
Greater off-grid potential
The most important change this season, however, occurs across the Fleurette/Florium portfolio and that’s the introduction of a compressor fridge, diesel heating (Truma Combi 4 D here) and a lithium leisure battery (100Ah as standard with 165Ah option) – all aimed at greater off-grid independence. Meanwhile, the water ingress warranty has been extended to six years (subject to annual checks).
Externally, the Baxter gets premium framed habitation windows and a low entrance door requiring no external step. The alloy wheels are part of the Allure Pack (£774), while a Comfort Pack (£1,490) adds a whole host of kit, from front fog lamps, double DIN radio with reversing camera and Traction Plus on the Fiat cab to the Hartal habitation door, cab blinds, dinette bed (third berth) and decorative curtains and cushions in the habitation area. Another interesting option is the electric footrest on the passenger cab seat (£516).
It’s also worth noting that, while the 64 LDF doesn’t have a full-sized garage, it does have a large locker under the bed on the offside that’s completely unencumbered by vehicle services. Water tanks are heated and insulated and a good size – 120 litres fresh, 119 litres waste.
Plenty of choice
All the Florium’s cabinetwork is made in-house with the ash finish a contrast to the sister Fleurette model’s walnut. Then there are 14 possible permutations of seat, cushion and backrest upholsteries to choose from, giving you the opportunity to personalise your motorhome.
The layout is an unusual one in today’s market, mixing an en vogue face-to-face lounge with a less commonly seen French bed, allowing a spacious feel and a fixed bed in a shorter ’van. The lounge is a comfortable space with room for six. It has a fairly large fixed table, while the angular top lockers give a contemporary vibe. The big rooflight and overcab sunroof ensure there’s plenty of daylight, while downlights in the ceiling and reading lights on long flexible stalks provide good artificial illumination.
Slim double bed
Similar reading lights are mounted over the French bed, which has a headboard, overhead roof vent and net curtain. The bed measures 1.92m by 1.30m (manufacturer’s figures), while crucially not narrowing much at the foot (unlike so many French beds).
Alongside, behind a silver tambour door is a stylish washroom with backlit round mirror, swivel cassette toilet, and an oval basin mounted on the counter and fitted with a fashionable matt black tap. Beyond the loo is the separate shower with clothes drying rack, while the whole bedroom/washroom area can be screened off from the front of the motorhome.
Big fridge
Finally, the kitchen is quite compact but offers a useful amount of worktop space, especially as the sink lid can be repositioned as a shelf. The hob has only two gas rings but an oven is optional and the tall fridge has a huge, 149-litre capacity.
