Erwin Hymer Group UK’s new flagship, with a classic British layout

Full Review
Avalon is the new flagship model in the Elddis range, with prices knocking on the door of £100k if you tick the options. Its significance is underscored by a new body construction technique for an Erwin Hymer Group UK vehicle – a Zip system that is said to increase strength and reliability. Its fully bonded construction creates a complete seal around the floor and the walls, which use one-piece panels with a UV-resistant GRP Sunsation high-gloss exterior finish.
Externally, all Avalons have the largest-possible overcab window with a frameless design, as well as a new one-piece ABS rear with bike rack and reversing camera fittings integrated into the design. A key standard feature internally is the 24-hour programmable gas/electric Alde ‘wet’ central heating, which can be used while you drive thanks to a Drivesafe regulator.
Fiat base vehicle
The base vehicle is the facelifted Fiat Ducato with 140hp motor and manual gearbox; the automatic version costs an extra £3,246. You can also change the cab colour from white to black or Iron Grey for £847, or opt for silver sides for the habitation bodywork for £282. Alloy wheels, automatic lights and wipers and front fog lights are standard.
For more cab spec, add the XT Pack (£3,555) which includes a heated windscreen, electric parking brake, automatic air-conditioning, wireless phone charging, and a 10in touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and sat-nav.
Range of four
There are four models in the range, each echoing the previous Encore line-up. The 295, shown here, is the classic style of very British two-berth motorhome with a wrap-around U-shaped end lounge. Despite its enduring appeal amongst some buyers, there are surprisingly few true rivals now, the most obvious being the Auto-Sleeper Broadway EL.
Lots of space for two
At 7.37m, this is a large motorhome for a model with just two travel seats and no fixed bed. As you enter, the washroom faces you and you’re in the midst of the kitchen. There’s a sideboard (with eye-level microwave above) and full-height wardrobe to your left, then the rest of the galley to your right. The wardrobe is tall enough to contain two hanging rails (one above the other). Despite the amount of furniture at the front of the vehicle, both cab seats swivel, making a handy secondary seating area when the rear is being used as a bedroom.
The washroom benefits the most from the extra length of this motorhome. It feels really spacious, with plenty of room on the loo, a heated towel rail, and a washbasin set on a counter with room adjacent for your toiletries. Most important of all, the separate shower is a good size, too, and features an Ecocamel water-saving showerhead. The washroom also has an opaque opening window. Water tanks (100 litres each for fresh and waste) are underslung but heated.
Galley in two parts
While the 800W microwave stands on its own, the rest of the kitchen is aft of the entrance. Additional cooking is care of three gas burners and an electric hotplate, with separate oven and grill below.
There’s some worktop, but more is added by deploying the flip-up extension to the right of the hob. Storage includes three drawers plus a cupboard for the table, which is a free-standing unit. The fridge – a 133-litre Dometic 10 Series – is opposite, as is a small chest of drawers.
Why choose the 295?
You’ll choose this motorhome for its rear lounge with comfy U-shaped format, armrests, scatter cushions and large windows all around (each with an upholstered surround). At night, this area converts into single beds (1.86m by 0.67m) or a large double.
The interior of the Avalon feels far more contemporary than its forebears (and other current Elddis models) with its Japandi/Nordic design. It can also be further enhanced with options such as leather upholstery, habitation air-conditioning and the Connect+ Pack (solar panel and WiFi).

Our Verdict
If you’re looking for a classic British two-berth rear lounge motorhome with a high spec there are few alternatives in 2025. The Avalon updates the previous Encore’s design but the big news is its body construction.
