Key Features
Full Review
Chausson’s ‘S’ range offers Ford Transit-based low-profile motorhomes with a fixed bed and garage in a near-panel van overall width of just 2.10m. The layouts up until now have been European classics with a half-dinette lounge.
The new S614 keeps that slimline size but offers a more inviting, more spacious Smart Lounge with side settees (convertible into forward-facing for travel) and is the first four-berth in the range, as it also has an electric drop-down bed.
Choice of spec
Like its sister models it comes in First Line spec (all-white exterior) or Sport Line (£2,500 extra). However, while the 2026-season Sport Lines still have the Grey Matter cab, the habitation body is no longer in a matching colour and reverts to white (shame). What you do get with a Sport Line is the Trail grille, an overcab sunroof, black alloy wheels (steel rims on First Line), a premium mattress and an external barbecue point.
Compact with a garage
This is a compact motorhome, at only 6.59m long, but it still has plenty of storage – with a large garage – and a very generous payload of over 700kg. Loading is via a full-sized door on the offside or a smaller hatch on the nearside, but this space can also be reached through a sliding door inside the motorhome. There are fixed lashing points, 12V and 230V sockets and the garage is 73cm wide. It also offers 1.06m headroom under the bed but, because this is what Chausson calls a ‘butterfly bed’, you can also hinge half the bed base up to open the area up into a full-height locker.
In the living area, you discover that the other half of the bed can also be hinged upwards (like the wings of a lepidoptera) to create extra floor space – as well as making access to the wardrobe and garage easier.
And when all you want here is a bed, you have a transverse double (reached via a shortish ladder) with a mattress that measures 1.91m by 1.32m (length wall to wall is greater at 1.97m). There’s a bedroom window on the offside but you can sit up against the nearside wall where there’s a single reading light. A roof vent provides additional ventilation.
Lounge & drop-down bed
Of course, the rear end of this new model is similar to the existing S514 but the front lounge is more appealing, with the additional feature of the hideaway bed that lowers from the ceiling. However, when stowed, that extra berth reduces headroom in the lounge to 1.78m and, when lowered, it’s not as low as some – the sideboard (which in the UK spec houses an oven) stops the bed when it’s 94cm off the floor. Occupants here do have neat wall-mounted his and hers reading lights on the wall.
With the drop-down bed stowed, the S614 has a good-sized and comfortable seating area with large windows on either side and a 1.10m by 66cm fixed central table that folds in half when you’re not dining. There are downlights in the base of the bed above and knee rolls on the two side settees.
Kitchen & bathroom
Aft of the lounge, the washroom lives behind a sliding tambour door. It’s a bit plasticky in here but there’s a large wall mirror and a slim wall cabinet, while a roof vent caters for ventilation. The best bit is the swing wall that rotates the basin over the cassette loo to create a decent-sized shower with twin drains and a shelf for your shampoo, etc.
Opposite, the galley is compact, with a flap to add a modicum of worktop – more enterprising chefs will need to use the table, too. As well as the aforementioned oven (not shown in our images), there’s a two-burner hob, sink, cutlery drawer and 87-litre three-way fridge.
Extras
Most buyers will want to add the Accessories Pack (£3,000), which includes a roll-out awning, a 140W solar panel, a flyscreen on the habitation door, cab blinds, etc.
Chausson motorhomes from under £20k
This French brand has long been a top seller in the UK, so there are loads of used Chausson motorhomes on the market, some from less than £20,000...
Our Verdict
The ‘S’ range grows with this extra model, which adds a drop-down bed and face-to-face lounge, but it still stays genuinely compact at 6.59m long and only 2.10m wide. The butterfly bed adds versatility but it’s a pity the Sport Line version loses its distinctive all-grey bodywork.
