Description
Enhanced space and luxury in this updated C-line
Key Features
Full Review
The C-line, one of Carthago’s longest-standing ranges, has been redesigned for 2026 and the I 5.9 XL model is the second biggest in the new range, which goes up to 8.78m in length. At 8.52m long, this model is rated at five tonnes on the Mercedes Sprinter Al-Ko chassis, but it is also available on the Fiat chassis (then it’s 8.39m).
The exterior has a revised appearance, with the bronzed side skirts, while this one sported the optional silver body (£3,405). Note the automotive-style side decals displaying the Chic C-line branding. There are top-hung mirrors and the front has a signature Carthago look with chrome strips on the grille and the big ‘C’ badge.
At the back the garage has twin doors and it’s a big space with box shelves and netted compartments. There are rails along each side for tie-down points and there are also further bungee straps to help secure gear to the rear wall. The inverter and a mains socket sit behind a panel, along with the lithium battery.
Interior with the drop-down bed
Step in through the habitation door and there's a big grab handle and an illuminated back panel in the mirror. There’s a fairly shallow internal step and access to a floor hatch, which is handy for your shoes.
As expected, the C-line has a big lounge. This show model had cupboards all round, rather than a drop-down bed above the cab. Along with the twin roof lights, it makes the area feel so much more spacious. New for this season is a grey fabric surround to the lounge windows, instead of curtains.
The cab chairs swivel and they’re on the same level as the lounge seats. The table has a wood grain surface with a bevelled edge, so it just feels a bit less imposing.
Coffee maker and oven options in the kitchen
Further back, the kitchen is quite spacious. It has a new cocktail cabinet for eight glasses – four for wine and four highballs. There’s also a drop-down wine rack. The sink has an extendable tap with a shower-style hose, while the hob has cast iron pan stands and a split glass lid. There are three drawers below the sink, all of a good size and three further drawers adjacent, one with a waste bin. The fridge, opposite, has an optional high-level oven above. This can be swapped out for a low-level oven, replacing the drawers under the hob. A coffee maker is another option.
XL washroom
The I 5.9 has the XL washroom with separate shower doors that pivot around a duckboard in the same floor as the rest of the washroom. The tray has two drain holes and there are recesses at the side for your gels. The basin is similar to one you’d find in a hotel. It’s square and recessed into the counter with a swan neck tap. Mounted on the wall are two frosted glass beakers and a matching soap dispenser.
The toilet door doesn't swing over to the front; there's an extra door just as you step through from kitchen to lounge to cover off this whole area.
The loo compartment has the Alde heated towel rail, a well-placed toilet roll holder, a roof vent, rooflight and a window. You do step up into this space, but as it’s not home to the sink or shower, you don’t need the extra height. There’s also a wardrobe adjacent with twin rails – you could pack ballgowns!
Single beds, lots of options
There are single beds at the back, with two more wardrobes beneath. The neat feature is the step that slides forwards to allow you to make the beds into a giant double but still with easy access.
The model shown had the Super Pack, a 40in TV and the Chassis Plus package, all of which are standard fare on UK models. A bedroom TV Pack, Mercedes-Benz Assistance Pack and coffee machine were also fitted.

Our Verdict
While this is a very spacious motorhome and it has a washroom bigger than many would have at home, it is also a big motorhome. Driving it is easier than you think, though, with good sight lines down to the road. Go carefully with the options list as the price can rise quickly with extras.
