Recent data from automotive data specialists, cap hpi, reveals that Volkswagen California campervans are experiencing very little depreciation, making them a much sought after investment.

Based on the 2.0 California TDI BlueMotion Tech Beach 150 5dr DSG model (1767 plat), the depreciation is 3% of its original cost new (£44,022) meaning a one-year-old model with 10,000 miles will sell for £42,750, holding 97% of its value. Similarly, a three year old model with 30k miles (1565 Plate) will retail for £34,250, holding 83% of its original cost new of £41,280.

Rachel Limbert, valuations editor at cap hpi, said: “It’s no wonder that VW’s California campers are so popular with very low depreciation across all models with holding around 75% of original cost new at three years 30k miles and greater than 90% at one year 10k.

“This style of vehicle ticks a lot of camper fans boxes with sleeping for up to four people and it is particularly popular with the keen travellers, particularly families. It remains an especially popular seasonal purchase. The automatic transmission variants are the popular choice, and drivers prefer this transmission and this is evident in the volumes visible.”
