Laika's new UK-handed Kosmo motorhomes

The new Laika Kosmo motorhome range
Laika builds motorhomes in three distinct ranges – Kosmo, Ecovip and Kreos – with them ranking in that order for price and prestige. In fact, the Kosmo name is attached to campervans, low-profiles and A-class motorhomes as the entry point into this upmarket Italian marque.
But there’s an exciting new development in the Kosmo low-profile range for 2025 – two layouts that have been mirrored compared with the standard continental spec, so the habitation door is now on the UK nearside. For those more used to British-built motorhomes, that’s a welcome touch and one that you’ll rarely find on other imported models.
These new Laikas, built especially for the British market, offer a choice of single bed (Kosmo L 4.9) and island bed (Kosmo L 4.12) layouts whilst still retaining the essence of the Italian Dolce Vita design for which the Italian brand is renowned.
The Kosmo L 4.9 and L 4.12 are both priced from £80,100.
Room for five
Based on the latest Fiat Ducato 35 Light chassis, these Kosmo low-profiles are 3.5-tonne vehicles as standard, so they can be driven on a normal car licence. Payloads are around 500kg in standard form but a chassis upgrade to 3,650kg is available for those needing more payload and possessing a C1 licence. Both models are 7.40m long and 2.32m wide and have the 140hp Multijet motor as standard. An automatic gearbox and 180hp engine upgrade are available, as is a metallic black cab.
Each of these motorhomes has a front lounge with an L-shaped sofa (incorporating two belted rear travel seats, with the option to add Isofix), plus a single side seat adjacent to the door and, of course, the swivel cab chairs. They have two sleeping berths as standard but a dinette bed and/or electric drop-down bed (2.00m by 1.40m narrowing to 1.23m) is available as an option.
In the kitchen, these Italian vehicles meet UK culinary demands with the option of a low-set Thetford Duplex oven/grill in addition to their three-burners-in-line hob and a tall 136-litre fridge opposite. Both also have central washrooms split across the aisle with a door that swings across to create an en suite bedroom. The key difference between the two vehicles is, of course, in their rear sleeping quarters. The Kosmo L 4.9 has single beds measuring 2.10m and 2.05m in length (each is 80cm wide). The Kosmo L 4.12 has an island double that is 1.98m by 1.48m.
On the practicality side, both have 6kW blown-air heating and a 110-litre fresh water capacity.
Those wanting to complete the spec of their new motorhome will be sure to add the Comfort Pack – a wooden duckboard in the shower, cab carpet, extractor hood, heated and insulated waste water tank, overcab Skyview sunroof, rear bedroom walls trimmed in faux leather, pull-out baskets and racks in the galley, cab seats matching the lounge, reversing camera preparation and a premium habitation door with remote central locking, window, blind, storage and gas strut.
Even more spec
There are also packs to increase the spec of the base vehicle – the Chassis Pro Pack, Safety Pack and Chassis Max Pack. Go for the last of those and you get an electric parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring, digital air-conditioning, inductive phone charging, full LED headlights, automatic lights and wipers and digital instrumentation.
Other options include a fifth travel seat, a choice of upholsteries (including real and faux leather) and contrasting cushions, 22in or 32in TVs, awnings, an external barbecue point, lithium batteries, a towbar and habitation air-conditioning. The heating can be upgraded from gas only to gas/230V or diesel or diesel/230V.
