New hybrid campervan launched
If you wanted to make the move to a more sustainable electric motor-driven camper, yet retain the flexibility of a petrol engine for longer distances, then a hybrid is a good idea. CampervanCo’s new Ford Transit Custom Evolution Eco Camper will offer up to 26 miles on an electric charge but has a 1-litre Eco Boost range extender engine
The new hybrid camper (which is being shown at the NEC motorhome and caravan show, 22-28 February) also has lightweight, modular kitchen units, enhanced insulation for more efficient climate control, induction hobs, a hot water dispenser (option), phone and tablet charging stations, elevating roof and optional WiFi system. The vehicles are also fitted with 1,000W solar panels that can charge while driving, and a 250Ah leisure battery to power cooking and lighting systems.
You can specify other things such as slow cookers, coffee machines, wireless phone and tablet charging, and a sliding seat rail system to maximise boot space when on the road and living space on site.
CampervanCo is also currently developing a zero-emissions heating system, to be launched in early 2023. This will use heat capture technology.
Gary Hayes, CEO of CampervanCo, commented,
At CampervanCo we have set out ambitious targets to be entirely emissions-free by 2025, five years ahead of the Government’s own commitments.
Prices start from £76,000 for the Ford Evolution Eco Camper, but potential purchasers living in Scotland may be able to apply for a government grant or loan to help fund the purchase. See the Energy Saving Trust website for further details.
CampervanCo was established in 2006 as a hire company, but quickly diversified into the custom build market. It has been developing environmentally friendly campervans, with full hybrid and tribrid designs launched in 2016.
In 2022 the company is aiming to double its manufacturing outputs and, to accommodate the significant expansion, it recently moved into new premises in Denny, Falkirk.
