Luxury motorhomes: Hymer B-Class MasterLine range snapshot
Luxury Hymer range profile
When only the best is good enough – Hymer B-ML I motorhomes
Hymer’s B-Class MasterLine I range (often shortened to B-ML I) sits almost at the very top of this iconic German motorhome manufacturer’s line-up – it’s pretty much at the top if you discount the unique and radical Venture S model.
There are four models to choose from and a range of USPs worth pointing out...
Star quality
Based on the Mercedes Sprinter with the 170hp engine, you get all manner of driver and safety aids as standard with the option to add even more. It’s also married to Hymer’s own SLC motorhome chassis which provides a flat floor from cab to rear and has independent wheel suspension for better on-road comfort.
The double floor is 36cm high and offers through-loading; as well as extra storage, this space helps with insulation, making winter touring stress-free. Along with the exterior access, there are interior hatches to underfloor storage cubby holes.
Exterior looks good
Up front, the panoramic windscreen has the effect of wrapping around the sides, giving a very premium feel and offering enhanced views of the road ahead. This styling continues on the rear panel, with elegant mouldings and multifunctional rear lights with hybrid LED technology; they even cleverly incorporate the three bars from the Hymer logo. It’s not just about style, either, as its double skin design is hail resistant.
Lighter life
No longer the preserve of ceiling lamps and spotlights, motorhome illumination has become a bit of an art form recently and Hymer’s B-ML I is no exception with what it calls a ‘four-level lighting concept’. That includes ambient upper and lower lighting as well as task and general options. And because this is app controlled – see the next section – it can be set at the right level for the right space and more.
Motorhome app
A smart motorhome
The BML-I was the first motorhome to be fitted with Hymer’s latest smart motorhome technology, but this is being rolled out to other models as both standard kit and an option. Along with the Hymer Connect app, it’s been designed to allow you to monitor and control many of the appliances within. View the mileage, electricity and water levels, and control the lighting and temperature, both when nearby using Bluetooth and from a distance using the mobile phone network.
The app also shows the nearest dealers or workshops with access to a helpful info section as well as handy checklists, like pre-trip checks or a reminder to unplug the hook-up cable.
It comes with three schedules (good morning, arrival and good night), but you can customise these to your needs.
Stepping inside a Hymer B-ML I
The interiors can be tailored, but possibly one of the most obvious aspects of this range is the seats in the lounge. Supremely comfortable, they have two different types of foam to offer support while relaxing, dining or when belted up for travelling.
The spacious feel in this area is enhanced by the rooflight above, too. It’s got a lower frame profile, improving headroom where fitted. Plus the crank handle makes opening and closing easier.
As an option, instead of the side seat, you can specify a new sideboard, for extra storage and shelving. Both options get a stylish fabric-backed wall above with a variety of fixings for storing accessories.
Rear bedrooms vary between single beds or an island. Those singles are over 2m long and 90cm wide, and can be added to with an extra cushion to create a massive 2m by 2m lengthways double. The island bed is also 2m long (and 1.56m wide) and is height adjustable – lower for easy access or raise for more garage space.
Finally, the pull-down bed in the cab is a generous 1.99m by 1.45m, utilising a sprung frame and multi-zone cold foam mattresses. Another consideration, if you don’t need this bed in the cab, is to swap it out for overhead lockers in this area.
Kitchens and washrooms
Cooking and more in a B-Class MasterLine
Kitchens all feature a decent amount of worktop and a three-burner hob (with proper metal pan supports), plus storage comprises larder-style units and drawers – much more easy to access. The 153-litre fridge is opposite the main cooking area and can be opened from either side; if you’re cooking in the kitchen, open from the right, or when heading for a cool drink from the lounge, simply choose the left-hand handle.
Also, there’s a second sink in the kitchen, handy for draining food or washing veg when the main sink is full of washing up.
You can also opt for a hybrid hob with two gas burners and an induction zone.
The washrooms differ slightly in the longer models, but both have showers with real glass doors and 1.94m headroom.
What's in the garage
Hymer B-ML I storage
All models get a large heavy-duty garage with a weight limit of 450kg; whether you want to transport your bikes, a scooter or any other gear for your holiday hobbies, you should be able to pack it in. Also, two garage doors of equally large size are standard on the B-ML I, making loading of larger items much easier or just providing better access to the gear stashed here. Usefully, too, the door can be opened via one handle that controls the two-point lock.
And don’t forget that double-floor storage with useful across-the-motorhome spaces.
Model overview
Hymer B-Class MasterLine I 780 & 790
These are the single rear axle models at 7.89m long. Choose between single beds (780) and the island bed (790) floorplans, both with the same starting price of £144,620.
The main differentiation between these and the two longer models lies in the washroom and the kitchen areas.
It’s an across-the-aisle washroom; the toilet cubicle door swings over to shut off the front and a sliding door then provides privacy from the bedroom. Worktop behind the toilet is very useful and the decent curved shelf in the moulded shower wall will be suitable for your soaps, etc.
The kitchen area is slightly shorter, too, with usable worktop located in front of the hob.
Hymer B-Class MasterLine I 880 & 890
With a twin rear axle, these two models (single bed 880 and island bed 890) are both 8.99m long and priced from £157,900.
As already stated, it's mainly the kitchen and washroom area where that extra length has been appropriated.
You’ll find a larger washroom with dressing room-style wardrobe. The sink resembles that from a hotel washroom with a wall-mounted tap, drawers beneath and an illuminated mirror above. There are even neat little recesses on either side of the tap for your essentials. The heated towel rail is another feature of this larger washroom.
