Andrew Robinson, a Fire Safety Stick representative, said
If the striker caps appear to be damp, they will still be okay. I have activated dozens to be completely sure they are fine. However, if you are not sure about it, contact us with a photograph of the cap. We will look at it and replace it free of charge.
The company has also confirmed it is providing replacements for those who have been seriously affected by the moisture. There is not a recall on the product, as Fires Safety Stick remains adamant the sticks will still function.
Andrew Robinson has posted two instructional videos addressing the concerns and providing further advice on how to minimise the problem. The principal advice is to move any affected sticks to a warm, dry area to minimise the impact.
If you own a Fire Safety Stick in your motorhome, car or home, take two minutes to do the following:
1. Remove the yellow base cap carefully.
2. Inspect the small brown circular striker pad. It should be dry.
3. Check whether the striker cap is domed or has become concave.
4. If anything looks damp, wet, or degraded, contact Fire Safety Stick directly at [email protected]
