Elddis Shifts Focus to Campervans and Motorhomes
News
British manufacturer, Elddis, which is part of the Erwin Hymer Group (EHG), has confirmed a major strategic change towards campervans and motorhomes in light of a declining caravan market.
Over the last decade, there has been a significant move by customers away from caravans, while the market for motorhomes and campervans has remained buoyant, with campervans proving increasingly attractive for buyers.
Last year 16,668 customers bought a new motorhome or campervan in the UK, which was 220 up on the previous year.
Compare this to caravans, which saw sales for the entire year reach just 8,825, which was down 1,800 on the previous year and some 25,000 down on the peak year of 2007 when over 33,300 caravans were bought in the UK.
This sustained decline in caravan sales and a growing preference for campervans and motorhomes has led to Elddis’ realignment
“At the centre of our proposed new strategic direction is a clear ambition: to deliver some of the most competitive motorised products and services in the industry, supported by quality you can trust and a portfolio that evolves continuously with the market.”
As part of the move, which is being made under the banner ‘Elddis. Unlimited’, the company’s motorhomes and campervans will now be built to Elddis’ specifications and designs at EHG facilities in Europe.
This means Elddis motorhomes will be built in lsny, Germany, one of Europe's most advanced motorhome manufacturing locations, while Elddis campervans will now be produced at Nowa Sól in Poland, which is EHG’s dedicated European campervan centre of excellence.

This gives Elddis unlimited access to the EHG high-performance production network, increasing speed to market and strengthening the Elddis product portfolio with high-quality products tailored to the needs of UK customers
These moves are designed to deliver unmatched competitiveness, quality and sustainable growth… Together, this provides ultimate confidence in the future of the brand for customers and for dealers alike.
The company explained that this new ‘Elddis. Unlimited’ strategy reflects the scale of opportunity now available to Elddis through its close integration with EHG by “unlocking unlimited capability, innovation, product performance and potential, while remaining true to what Elddis stands for”.
It also confirmed Elddis will continue to invest in customer care and experience. “The new Elddis Experience Centre based in Consett will act as a hub for service, warranty and technical operations, events, training, dealer engagement and customer interaction,” it said, adding that other changes at Consett will create a “powerful and unique structure: European manufacturing excellence, led by an UK operation built around customers and dealers”.
Current and future customers have also been reassured that the changes will have no impact on customer support or warranties.

While Elddis' strategic focus is firmly on campervans and motorhomes, it has not yet decided on the future direction for its caravans. “Elddis is currently assessing manufacturing options with regards to caravans; confirmation will be given by the end of April.”
