Leave the beds behind and carry on trucking
If you like the idea of being able to leave your sleeping compartment at a campsite, but don’t want the hassle of towing a caravan, then have a look at the latest release from E S Hartley, the Romahome D20. This is a two-berth pod, mounted on a DFSK Big Cab pick up that fits like a glove when motoring around, but on arrival can be detached and set on its own legs. The panels of the truck then fold back up to turn it back into a fully-functional pickup truck. It’s an ideal option for tradesmen working away from home, or the home owner needing to move lots of furniture for example.Brian Bailey of E S Hartley commented, “We have been asked many times about reviving this format but there was always a shortage of suitable base vehicles on which to develop it. When the DSFK Big Cab became available we realised that here was a 21st century base vehicle to take the original Romahome format into a new era – we just had to make it happen!”
The pod body is a monocoque design, built using glass reinforced plastic (GRP) and comes with moulded side skirts and rear bumpers. To maximise internal space, entry to the unit is through a central rear door. High quality fabrics, fixtures, and fittings are used throughout. The length of the entire vehicle is under 5m.
The interior has a large Luton storage space over the cab and a good-sized kitchen area across the full width of the van providing ample working and storage space. A glass-covered two-burner hob and grill, a three-way, 60-litre fridge, and glass-covered stainless steel sink complete this very usable kitchen area.
Along both sides of the interior are full-length overhead storage units with more storage under the seats, one of which can also be accessed from the outside. With hanging space for clothes at the rear of the pod and a dedicated location for adding a toilet, this little van is much bigger than it would seem.
The onboard 90amp leisure battery, along with mains electric hook-up, ensures plenty of power is available. Customers are able to specify solar panels as factory-fit options if additional power is needed, other standard fittings include onboard water tanks for 20-litres of fresh water and an adequate waste tank while the gas locker holds a 6kg gas bottle.
There are a number of other optional extras available including TV aerial, portable toilet, large Heki skylight, gas blown heater, reversing sensors, extras 12v and 240v sockets, electric step and demounting legs.
Director of E S Hartley, Neil Worrall said, “We are really excited to launch the D20, we know how popular Romhome are and believe these are a great edition to the range.”
Prices start from £27,995 on the road, for more information contact E S Hartley on Lake District: 01539 822450 or Ellesemere Port: 0151 350 6870, or visit the Romahome website. You can get a look at the new D20 at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome show, NEC, Birmingham, starting 17 Feb.
