Carthago reveals 2019 models
German premium motorhome manufacturer, Carthago, has shown the world its line-up of new models for the coming 2019 season. The main focus has been on Carthago’s new generation of chic c-line top-end A-class models. But equally, it has worked to cut weight in its c-compactline and c-tourers while also introducing a couple of all-new models and layouts. It has also introduced three new models to its liner-for-two portfolio making it into a complete range of four models for the coming season.
Carthago's Liner-for-Two
The first liner-for-two with its rear lounge was presented last year and is now part of a four-model line-up in two lengths with three different chassis types. The liner-for-two sees the bedroom at the front (utilising the drop-down bed over the cab), behind which sees a washroom, kitchen and finally the C-shaped rear lounge. As the name suggest, the range is designed for couples and sees the rear lounge get an electrically extending TV lounger. One of the inventive features of the liner-for-two 53 is its drop-down bed, which is actually two longitudinally arranged single beds up to 2m long.
The most significant new feature for 2019 is the model expansion. The 7.8m-long liner-for-two 53 is now available on the Iveco Daily as an alternative to the Ducato with Al-Ko low-frame chassis. The 8.5m-long liner-for-two 53 L gets an enlarged rear garage on either the Ducato double-axle Al-Ko or Iveco Daily. Other changes for 2019 include the floor-to-ceiling wardrobe getting a new cabinet arrangement with clothes rails at two different heights, a central shelf and an LED striplight.
Carthago C-Line
For 2019, the c-line gets an all-new dashboard and a new GRP rear with newly designed rear lights. Inside, changes include optional flatscreen TVs concealed behind the backrest of the side sofa that have been increased in size from 19 to 24 inches in the T models, and from 24 to 32 inches in the integrated models (the new XL models get 40-inch TVs). Carthago has also come up with a special solution for a central sliding door that separates the rear bedroom from the rest of the motorhome.
For 2019, the chic c-line T/I 5.0 gets a sliding multifunction TV wall in front of the island bed. In the resting position it is located out of the way in front of the washroom. When wanting to watch TV in bed, the divider can be slid across, with the TV attached, to its central position at the foot of the bed where it reconnects to the electricity supply using in-built connections.
Carthago has also introduced a new model in the chic c-line range called the I 5.3, which is 7.76m long Its special feature is the vis-à-vis lounge seating group, which sees two side-facing sofas just to the rear of the cab. This new layout sees an island bed at the rear above the typically huge garage and it also gets the new central sliding divider door with attached TV.
Two other new models have also arrived in the chic c-line (and s-plus) XL range, which are 30cm longer than their counterparts allowing a liner-class washroom to be installed in an A-class. Carthago says these two new XL models – the I 61 XL LE (twin single rear beds) and I 64 XL QB (rear island bed) – are the closest you can get to a liner (without actually getting a liner). They join the c-line I 5.8 XL QB Suite, which remains unchanged for this year.
The new C-compactline
The other big news among the launch of new models is the arrival of the new c-compactline I 141 LE, a lightweight, compact A-class (it is also available as a c-tourer). This new compact A-class is 6.63m long and yet contains two twin single beds measuring 2m long. This is made possible by the introduction of a new, space-saving Vario washroom with internal swivelling wall, which means the washbasin and the rear panel are swivelled forward over the toilet using a handle to create creating the shower cubicle.
Carthago has also added some exterior design changes to its c-tourer I models. In order to avoid confusion, the new radiator grill of these A-class motorhomes has eight lateral braces instead of the vertical braces of the other models. Another feature is the prominent letter ‘C’ on the new bodywork colour in white. All C-tourers are now emblazoned with the Carthago “C”.
In addition, there are plenty of changes/upgrades and enhancements to the entire Carthago line-up. First is the company’s c-compactline range of A-class motorhomes, which has been the focus of a weight-loss programme. As a result, Carthago now claims it is the lightest A-class motorhome in the premium sector. Carthago just said this impressive weight loss was thanks to its developers introducing a “multitude of detail optimisations”. But whatever they did, the result has been a reduction in weight across all the models within the range, all of which sit below 3.5 tonnes.
