German campervan manufacturer, Westfalia, which is owned by the French Rapido Group, has revealed its new innovations for the 2021 season. 

It has focussed on enhancing its current range and therefore there are no new models, just enhancements to existing models.

The company’s popular Fiat Ducato-based campervan, the Columbus, sees most innovations for the new season. The five models that make up the Columbus range are Westfalia’s best-sellers and account for 55 per cent of its total sales. Of these, it is the 540D – rear transverse double bed, central kitchen and washroom and front half-dinette lounge – that is the most popular single model, which on its own accounts for 21 per cent of all Westfalia campervans sold.

For 2021 this popular campervan range now has an optional ‘skyview’ panoramic rooflight over the cab. In addition, several Columbus models – the 540D, 600 and 601D – are now also available with an electric pop-top roof, which contains a double bed. For this year, it has also adapted the design so the insulation canvas can stay in place when closing the roof. 

The pop-top roof is also available with a new large (2.4m2) integrated solar panel. Westfalia has integrated the solar panel using a frameless and completely flat design so that the roof rails are still useable. There are also no visible electrical connections. According to Westfalia, the panel can produce a charging current of between five and 19A depending on the weather.

Inside, the Columbus also gets new touch-action LED spotlights. All campervans across all the Westfalia ranges now get new improved door handles and a look for the washroom doors, while the James Cook gets new Remis blinds.

All models also get new lighter and more durable wood for their high-level cabinets and an optional table rail to allow the table to be used outside of the ’van.

Finally, leatherette seat covers are now an option on the Sven Hedin, Club Joker and Club Joker City.
