The Chic C-line is the mainstay of Carthago’s premium line-up, and one of the longest-running ranges at 20 years old. And, for the coming season, it has been completely overhauled. The external changes are very distinctive, more so on the A-class models which sport dominant ‘C’ branding on the grille.

Bronze side skirts complement the new sweeping graphics on both body types, with integrated wheelarches also contributing to the sleek look. Plus, check out the C-shaped lights on the moulded rear panel.

What’s unmistakeable is that this is a Carthago model with its curved profile where wall meets roof, and aluminium-skinned walls inside and out for insulation and protection from lightning.

That’s just a few of the aspects of this premium manufacturer’s construction. There are both Mercedes and Fiat-based offerings, a total of nine A-class models (Chic C-line I) and two low-profiles (Chic C-line T).

Choose from single bed floorplans across the two types, or there are a couple of island bed options in the A-class models.

Carthago’s interiors, dubbed ‘worlds of style’ now have new handle-free upper locker doors, no matter whether you go for the standard amalfi (white and wood duo-tone furniture with grey worktops) or the new option of cortina (white locker doors with wood worktop and table accents).

Both get smart bevelled edges for a more modern look, which is enhanced by the fabric window surrounds, removing the need for curtains – you can still opt for Roman blinds in the bedroom if required, though.

In the kitchens, worktops appear to be floating while the new bar counter creates a more open feel between lounge and cooking space as well as offering more storage.

Carthago is known for its excellent washrooms offering plenty of space, but if this is something you want to maximise, check out the XL models. All of these have the wardrobe located within a luxury dressing area and room to swing the proverbial cat. Showers get a new corner column offering indirect lighting and oh-so practical shelves.

The top end of the Chic range, these A-class models are based on the new Iveco Daily; with the 3-litre engine offering up to 207hp and 470Nm of torque, it’s perfectly suited for towing heavier trailers (up to 3,500kg). That’s ideal for anyone with a serious hobby that wants a high level of comfort, by the track for example.

The Daily gets new assistance systems as standard – ESR, ASR, ABS, electronic immobiliser, hill holder – with the Driver Assistance Pack adding even more features, such as advanced lane centring and automatic cruise control with traffic jam function.

The exteriors have been revamped to reflect the rest of the Carthago line-up with a new face, sporting that ‘C’ on the grille. Options include the all-silver paint and the Air-Pro adaptive air suspension system from Iveco. Also check out the infotainment package with the new ‘Hey Iveco’ voice assistant.

Key features

Weight is the watchword of the C2-tourer range, which was only introduced last year. By changing construction and design, these motorhomes can still offer a well-specified motorhome that is around 120kg lighter.

Putting a C2-tourer I 145 RB LE on the weighbridge, this model weighed 2,972kg, even with 85kg of options.

That’s a more than sensible payload for a couple touring fully loaded. New for this year, models are available on the Fiat Ducato, and there are also sub-7m models in the range.

The new I 143 KB-LE and the I 141 KB-LE are both available as the lightweight 3,500kg model; those with a C1 driving licence can choose the 4.25-tonne comfort model to allow you to tick more options.

Interiors are casablanca 2 as standard, but nuovo is now an option, offering handle-free top lockers for a cleaner look.

Key features

  • Lighter double-floor motorhome
  • Sub-7m models now available
  • Choose from Mercedes or Fiat chassis
