To help you during your route through france to spain our list only includes aires suitable for poor weather, and where you are unlikely to be alone. Campsites listed are those we have used; other sites close to the route can be found in the Caravan Club's Europe Guide but we cannot advise on their suitability, particularly for low season use. Any prices shown are a guide only.
Stage 1
Calais - Aire (N50 57 56 E1 50 35) Flat asphalt near harbour for 60 vans. €7 if collector calls. Popular and 5min walk to town.
Boulogne - Aire (N50 44 44 E1 35 53) Large paved or gravel area beside D940 north of town. Popular, well lit at night, may need levellers. €5 if collector calls. Water €3. Leave A16 at junction 32.
Le Touquet - Aire (N50 32 10 E1 35 33) Flat asphalt at marina, 40 marked bays. Ticket m/c €13, may be disabled in winter. 1.5 mile to lovely town.
Berck-sur-Mer - Aire (N50 23 48 E1 35 50) Flat gravel with 75 bays at Base Nautique. Free in winter. Popular with French vans.
St-Valery-sur-Somme - Aire (N50 10 55 E1 37 44) Landscaped gravel for 60 vans in quiet area. Barrier control €9, may be disabled in winter. 10min walk to town. Don’t enter town after bridge, continue west round bypass to 3rd r-a-bout. Forges-les-Eaux - Aire (N49 36 22 E1 32 33) Flat asphalt for 30 vans. Free in winter but water and elec off. 10min walk to town or parkland. 11 miles south of A28 at junc10. Recommended.
Stage 2
Pont-de-l’Arche - Aire (N49 18 21 E1 9 27) Four asphalt bays & use of adjacent car park beside river. Free but water €2.50 via credit card. From north turn left at traffic lights immediately after bridge, then left again along riverside.
Stage 3
Brezolles - Aire (N48 41 26 E1 4 10) Flat gravel & grass for 10 vans. Muddy parts if very wet. Free parking and services. Near centre. 9 miles SW of Nonancourt.
St-Maurice-les-Charency - Municipal Campsite (N48 38 46 E0 45 16) Small flat grass site in village centre. €12 w/out elec. Open all year, possibly muddy. On N12. Soligny-la-Trappe - Aire (N48 37 0 E0 32 38) Flat gravel for 10 vans. Free but tokens needed for water and elec. 6 miles north of Mortagne-au-Perche.
La Suze-sur-Sarthe - Aire (N47 53 20 E0 1 51) Flat gravel for 20 vans beside river close to centre. Muddy areas if wet. €5 inc services and elec. From Le Mans ring don’t exit on D323, go to next junction turning south on D23. Recommended.
Saumur - Ille D’Offard campsite (N47 15 36 W-0 3 53) Grass / hardstands, some low trees. 15min walk to town. Open mid Mar to Mid Nov. €16 with ACSI.
Chalais - Aire (N46 57 36 E0 6 18) Seven flat asphalt hedged bays at tourist centre. Free, water off but elec often on. No shops but direct access from N147.
Stage 4
Vivonne - Aire (N46 25 34 E0 15 47) Six flat asphalt bays behind tourist office in town centre. Free but water €2. Well lit at night and just off the N10.
Nersac - Aire (N45 37 34 E0 3 0) Seven flat asphalt bays next to police station. Free and elec often on. Tight for vans over 7.5m. Just off N10 SW of Angouleme. Recommended
Bordeaux - Village du Lac Camping de Bordeaux. (N44 53 52 W-0 34 58) Flat site some hardstands, muddy areas if wet. Open all year, €16 with ACSI. Bus plus tram to city. Take ring north, exit junc 5 follow signs.
Sanquinet - Aire (N44 18 38 W-1 5 28) 15 flat gravel pitches, some between trees. Free in winter but water off. Lit at night, village 1km. Take A660 towards Arcachon, exit junc 1 onto D216.
Biscarrosse - Aire (N44 25 50 W-1 10 5) Sandy gravel for 30 vans beside lake. Free in winter but water off. Muddy areas if wet and possible tree hazard. 7 miles south of Sanguinet.
Mimizan Plage - Aire (N44 12 18 W-1 17 49) Flat asphalt for 70 vans. Barrier control €8 inc water and elec via credit card. 25 miles south of Biscarrosse. There have been reports in 2019 that this site is now closed; there is a nearby site at Contis Plage with running water and electricity.
Capbreton - Aire (N43 38 8 W-1 26 48) Spacious flat asphalt for 50 vans. Free in winter but no water or elec. 12 miles north of Bayonne
Stage 5
Anglet - Aire (N43 30 25 W-1 32 1) Sheltered asphalt parking for 50 vans but levellers needed. Free in winter, water on but no elec.
Biarritz - Aire (N43 27 56 W-1 34 18) Slight sloping asphalt for 40 vans. Well lit at night and usually free until March. Some elec. Long walk or bus to centre.
