Morelo Home 78 L

There are luxury motorhomes from mainstream brands and then there are Morelo motorhomes. Morelo’s range starts with the Home, a vehicle that competes with the very most expensive models from the likes of Carthago and Hymer.

This ‘entry-level’ Morelo (as shown) would set you back £253,325. You can spend more than three times that figure on Morelo’s flagship Grand Empire...

The Home makes a return to the range from Schlüsselfeld this year as the smallest Morelo, the 78 version being the only sub-eight-metre motorhome in the portfolio.

It has been completely redesigned both inside and out and benefits from similar construction principles to the larger liners, with a 366mm-deep heated double floor and 42mm-thick walls with closed cell RTM hard foam insulation.

The awning (electric, of course) is integrated into the roof and you can now specify HGV-style cameras in place of external mirrors, for better visibility in wet weather.

Taller than before (now 3.39m) for greater interior headroom, this 7.81m motorhome is built on an Iveco Daily with 3-litre 207hp motor, eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and a ladder-frame chassis with 5,990kg maximum gross weight. It comes with Air-Pro air suspension on the rear axle and reinforced shock absorbers up front.

There are huge bus-style windscreen wipers and LED headlights, while the huge payload (up to 1,250kg before options) allows for unusually generous tank capacities – 240 litres fresh, 200 litres grey waste and a 200-litre black tank. Towing capacity is up to 3,500kg. Easily recognised as a Morelo on the outside, the new Home looks a lot more contemporary than its predecessor on the inside.

It is also a gas-free motorhome that uses high-quality domestic appliances. Even the cab gets Morelo’s attention, with its own design of dashboard. The lounge has straight and L-shaped settees, while lockers or a drop-down bed can be specified above the cab.

The kitchen has mineral worktops and an induction hob, while the Kitchen Package adds a Bosch electric oven and a Nespresso coffee machine.

The 132-litre fridge is another household item and has a separate 15-litre freezer. The washroom comes with a marine-type ceramic-bowl toilet, while permanent hot water comes from a Timberline diesel system. The shower is an impressive size, while the conjoined single beds at the rear each measure 2m by 1.06m.

Add the Electrical Package for 340Ah of lithium batteries and a 3kW inverter and your Morelo Home is the complete home from home, a top-class luxury liner without London bus dimensions.

Frankia Edition Together I 740 Plus

The British market is unusual in its love for a rear lounge, so it's surprising that one of the most luxurious of the breed comes from a German brand. Frankia has long been a rare exponent of the end lounge A-class and, celebrating its sixty-fifth anniversary this year, it has launched the £155,200 Edition Together.

Enhancing the already superb rear seating area with high ergonomic backrests and a tilting, swivelling 32in LED TV, this very special A-class also gains spec worth over €25,000. That includes special upholstery, two 110W solar panels and a 320Ah leisure battery.

Hymer ML-T 580 CrossTrail

This is a different kind of luxury motorhome, one designed to go to remote locations that would be inaccessible without all-wheel drive. It even has a lift kit, underbody protection and studded tyres!

The CrossTrail is the latest in a long line of 4x4 motorhomes from Hymer and offers more space and greater comfort than the existing CrossOver models. It’s based on a 4,100kg Mercedes Sprinter chassis.

With two solar panels and four lithium batteries, it is claimed to offer self-sufficient camping for up to 10 days at a time, irrespective of the season.
