Best Fixed Double Bed Motorhome 2026

Rapido 850F

The appeal of an island bed motorhome is easy to understand, with a proper bedroom and easy access to your double mattress from either side. And yet, many are surprisingly compromised in the zone that is their whole raison d’être, the bedroom.

Designers often tell us that it’s harder to get an island bed right than it is a twin bed layout. So, reducing the vehicle’s overall length from the usual 7.5m of an island bed model to a whisker under 7m should make the motorhome designer’s task nigh on impossible, close to pleasing everybody all of the time on a scale of easiness.

Somehow, though, this new Rapido feels bigger inside than that 6.99m length – and its bedroom is better than in some longer motorhomes. Of course, being an A-class helps, with that full-width cab and lots of daylight coming in through the larger glazed area.

Then there’s the fact that you enter into the lounge, where there’s plenty of floor space and a comfortable L-shaped sofa facing you. It’s a surprisingly open-plan interior that has room for your four-legged friend as well as enough space to stretch out and put your feet up.

It’s the end bedroom with 1.90m by 1.48m island bed, though, that’s key. Slide the mattress back into its chaise longue position and this feels like a generously sized bedroom with comfy space to sit with a cuppa and your iPad.

The beside tables are extra long and come complete with USBs to recharge your devices overnight. Then, when it’s lights out and the hypoallergenic Bultex mattress is pulled out flat, there’s still room to get around the end of the bed and a sliding door can make the bedroom completely private.

With a drop-down bed in the cab, this is a four-berth. Wardrobes on either side of the rear bed follow a new design that sweeps around into the top lockers, making a style statement that gives you plenty of clothing storage. Under the foot of the bed there’s a compartment above the boiler to keep your socks and undies toasty.

As part of the redesigned 8 Series range, not only does the 850F have a new look to the furniture but it has a facelifted exterior, too, that brings the practical advantage of much improved visibility for the driver. This isn’t an A-class that costs as much as a detached house, either.

Fully specified (with the comprehensive Select Pack) at under £90k, it competes with high-end low-profiles. It has a garage with electric height adjustment. Its kitchen includes an oven (properly placed in the main galley unit) and the Duo’Space washroom has a practical shower. Quite the all-rounder.

Fleurette Discover 75 LMF Wellness

At £105,390, this is a more expensive option than our victor and a more typical size, too, at 7.49m. Again, it’s a French-built island bed A-class from another part of the Rapido Group.

Where the Fleurette really scores is in having a decidedly premium feel, as well as a look that differentiates it from its Teutonic rivals. Based on a Fiat Al-Ko chassis, the Discover has plenty of room in its bedroom, as well as a height-adjustable garage.

Its kitchen features well-thought-out storage and centrally locked drawers, while Wellness Edition spec adds the icing to the gateau.

Rimor Sailer 55 Plus

If a generous garage is more important than access to the bed, this new transverse bed model from Rimor is a winner. Its garage is 1.22m wide and 1.30m high – at the NEC it had a 125cc scooter on board.

The fixed bed here is amongst the longest you’ll find, at 2.07m, and there’s a drop-down double over the lounge, too. Seating is on-trend parallel settees, for a comfortable relaxing space.

As ever from this Italian marque, value for money is off the scale, with a price of £64,995. Until the end of February that even includes six grand’s worth of extra goodies.
