When did Axon Motorhomes start out?

"The company was set up in May 2017 and it’s a panel van conversion specialist business, predominantly building on used Citroën Relay/Peugeot Boxer/Fiat Ducato bases. The company currently operates from a commercial workshop in Bacup, Lancashire.

I’m the company owner and manager and employ two full-time members of staff – Ryan, who is an electrical specialist and Ian, who is a joiner."

What sets Axon Motorhomes apart from the crowd?

"Axon provides excellent quality in terms of craftsmanship. All our campervans are finished to a high standard and we aim to produce ’vans that provide our customers with comfort and convenience at all times, whether in campervan or day van mode. We offer plenty of personalised finishing touches and optional extras to ensure it’s bespoke to you, and all at an affordable price."

How would you sum up the company’s ethos and values?

"Axon Motorhomes is focused on delivering quality and usability at an excellent price. We aim to build campervans that customers will enjoy so much that they’ll come back to us when they’re ready to upgrade to a new one, safe in the knowledge that the model range will also have evolved over time.

We only build campervans we’re proud of and always strive for perfection, so the aim is always to produce the best build quality with a constant view to improvement. No matter how small the detail, we’re always looking for ways to develop our product further and take it to the next level."

What do you think makes a great campervan conversion?

"A great conversion has to be user-friendly, making the best and most efficient use of the space available. It also has to be affordable, which can be the hardest part to achieve – that’s why we offer brand-new conversions on used base vehicles.

We're focused on the engineering and production of our conversions and all our builds have the excellent quality finish you would expect from any mainstream manufacturer. Technically speaking, they're flawless and they deliver the best usability to our clients."

What kinds of bespoke options do Axon Motorhomes offer?

"We offer three different models of campervans, all of which have set layouts and designs. This approach allows us to focus on the product development, innovations and quality of our model range and also enables us to keep our costs down through consistency – we know from experience that going down the bespoke campervan route can be expensive!

That said, we do accommodate specific requests on a case-by-case basis in order to customise campervans and, of course, we offer a range of finishes and extras to ensure your camper is tailored to suit you."

What’s your best seller?

"Our best-selling campervan is the Opportunity, which is a great campervan for couples. By day, it boasts a spacious living area which converts to accommodate a double bed at night. It has a neat kitchen area with a full-length integrated fridge/freezer plus a rear bathroom with a full-height shower and additional rear access for those who enjoy the great outdoors and need to wash the mud off before entering the cosy living quarters."

Have you got any exciting developments in the pipeline?

"At the moment, we’re focused on doing what we do, really well. We’ve designed three excellent campervans to create a model line-up that suits a range of customers’ needs. Next year, we want to expand the range to include a VW Transporter-based contender that will be nothing like what’s already on the market!

I think the conventional layout of a rock ‘n’ roll-style bench/bed with a side kitchen has been done to death, so ours will be something different."

The Axon Motorhomes range

Opportunity

Price from £31,490

Based on a used Citroën Relay, Peugeot Boxer or Fiat Ducato that’s up to four years old with a maximum of 50,000 miles on the clock, the Opportunity is our most popular two-berth model. The large rear washroom that can also be accessed from outside is a really handy feature and especially attractive to those into outdoor pursuits, or dog owners.

The lounge is also particularly spacious and comfy, with a 6ft 4in-long side sofa (that converts to a double bed at night) and swivelling cab seats, while the kitchen features a three-burner hob, oven and microwave.

Curiosity

Price from £20,990

This is our most compact campervan as it’s based on the Nissan NV200, which is ideal for anyone seeking a vehicle that can be used as a practical daily driver during the week that converts into a comfy camper for two come the weekend. The Curiosity offers four belted travel seats with a rear bench that makes into a double bed measuring 6ft by 3ft 6in. There’s a side kitchen featuring a Smev combined hob and sink unit, a microwave and a 50-litre Vitrifrigo fridge, as well as an onboard fresh water tank, 75Ah leisure battery and 100W solar panel.

Spirit

Price from: £33,590

Like the Opportunity, the Spirit is available on a choice of base vehicles, all of which come with a fresh MoT and a two-year mechanical breakdown warranty, plus a two-year warranty on the conversion. The Spirit is ideal for families, being a four-berth model, courtesy of a 6ft 2in-long double bed that makes up in the lounge and a pair of bunk beds across the back of the campervan, as well as four
belted travel seats. There’s a washroom featuring a washbasin, shower and a Thetford cassette loo while the well-appointed kitchen and spacious lounge is great for family mealtimes and relaxing.
