Motorhome accessory review: Lakeland Cordless Turbo 2 dehumidifier

This compact Lakeland Cordless Turbo 2 dehumidifier may prove useful for many motorhomers

Damp is a curse for many motorhome and campervan owners. Over the winter months it can cause untold damage to furnishings and also to the bodywork structure in extreme cases.

But there are steps you could take to lessen the risk of mould and mildew formed over the colder months.

You could invest in a bulky mains-operated dehumidifier but that’s only any use if you keep your ’van static on your drive over winter and have a nearby electric hook-up.

If you are a keen winter motorhomer or campervanner, you could try a lighter mini-sized dehumidifier.

This compact device from Lakeland looks like it should not be up to much. But it’s actually very capable, although some of the plastic innards in ours arrived in pieces (this didn’t affect the performance).

Charge it up on USB, switch it to ‘on’ or ‘on with humidity sensor’ or leave it off; it still works as a dessicant (you’ll need to refill this every so often with a tablet or crystals) dehumidifier with the fan off, it’s just a slower process.

With the fan on there is about 40 hours of life, so it’s not designed for long-term use in stored campervans but is ideal for keeping the damp at bay over a day or a weekend.
