These two motorhome ranges may be Italian in style, but they have their eyes firmly on the UK market

The Mobilvetta range

Italian brand, Mobilvetta, now brings a range of five A-class K-Yachts and three Kea low-profiles to the UK, all based on Fiat’s Ducato.

All have the 160bhp engine with the nine-speed automatic gearbox and electric parking brake as standard, as well as ESP, Traction+, ESC, Hill Assist, Hill Descent Control, automatic air-conditioning and rear view monitor. Also, each K-Yacht and Kea provides four travel seats; only the shortest model, the K-Yacht 59, doesn’t offer the same number of sleeping berths.

You’ll find the kit list is comprehensive, too: Alde heating (operating on similar principles to a typical domestic system), 120W solar panel, exterior gas and 230V points, Truma iNet X, and a wide habitation door on the UK nearside (plus a driver’s cab door). The iTech, almost totally wood-free bodywork is backed by a 10-year warranty.

All Mobilvettas feature flush-fitting windows, black alloy wheels, bus-style mirrors (for the K-Yachts) and part-synthetic-leather upholstery. Incidentally, importer, Marquis Leisure – which sells Mobilvettas exclusively via its 13 retail branches – says all Mobilvettas have the same payload margin: an impressive 1,016kg.

This was a new addition to the K-Yacht range last season, but a significant one: its sub-6m length makes it something of a rarity in the world of A-classes. It is more manoeuvrable but, thanks to its A-class cab, there’s no compromise when it comes to living space up front. There’s a typical A-class drop-down double, too.

The kitchen features a cooker with an induction plate to supplement two gas rings, along with a combined oven and grill. Kitchen storage is particularly impressive – including a full-size cutlery drawer and slide-out racking alongside more traditional lockers. Fittings like a kitchen roll holder and splash panel haven’t been forgotten and, across the corridor, is a 150-litre fridge/freezer.

At the back, there’s a full-width washroom with separate shower, swivel toilet, countertop handbasin and wardrobe. Here, fittings such as ambient and direct lighting, towel rail, twin drainage holes in the shower, etc, are important. As well as the drop-down double in the cab, a third bed can be made from the lounge seating, although this then precludes the use of the ladder to access the main bed.

Somewhat strangely (economies of scale, maybe), the 59 gets the same 4,400kg maximum weight chassis as its longer stablemates – so you’re going to need C1 status on your driving licence to be able to drive it.

If the 59 is too compact, the next size up is the 6.99m-long 80, with an L-shaped rear lounge and two drop-down double beds. There’s a typical front lounge, too, where again the main seating is L-shaped.

It’s well worth comparing the K-Yacht 86 and the subsequent 90 – both are 7.45m long. There’s just the one major difference between these two – it’s the sleeping facility at the back.

The 86 has two single beds, set over a large garage area, reached via exterior-access hatches on either side. And there is also that drop-down double bed over the cab, of course.

The 90 is similar to the 86, but with an island double bed. It has wardrobes either side, windows on both sides, as well as a large rooflight in the ceiling.

The bed is set at a decent enough height to allow easy access, as well as optimising the amount of storage space in its base.

The front of the K-Yacht 90 sees a comfortable lounge with inward-facing settees and a pedestal-leg table for on-site use.

A large U-shaped rear lounge is just what UK customers ordered, it seems, as this model was added to the line-up in 2022. Not only do you have all the attributes of a typical A-class up front – the drop-down double bed, the panoramic views out, etc, – but, once parked up on site, you can also choose to relax or dine in a different setting at the back. The rear lounge also converts into a second double bed, made from the seating. Alternatively, the side cushions are long enough to make single beds.

Full-width storage across the rear is accessible from either side but this cannot compete with the full garages of the fixed bed layouts (86 and 90).

The Kea low-profile trio carries on where the A-class K-Yachts leave off, with similar styling and specification (including Alde heating). The range starts with the 80, which features an L-shaped rear lounge. Here, you’ll find a pedestal leg table with electrical height adjustment.

Like its A-class stablemate, the K-Yacht 80, the low-profile Kea offers sleeping accommodation in not one but two drop-down double beds.

If permanent single beds are your preferred sleeping option, it’s the Kea 86 you want. At 7.45m, there’s sufficient overall length to have these and not have to over-compromise on space elsewhere.

Up front the layout is the same as the 90 model: two sofas with a drop-down bed above, a kitchen opposite the door and a toilet room facing the separate shower.

In contrast to the 86, the Kea 90 has an island bed, along with the facility to make the area into an en suite. That bed is 1.94m by 1.50m and, if you need four berths, there’s a 1.90m by 1.28m (tapering to 1.07m) drop-down double over the lounge.
