About Elddis

Purchased by the Germans in early 2017, the parent company of Elddis (formerly the Explorer Group) is now Erwin Hymer Group UK.

Based in Consett, County Durham, the company has been building mostly budget-priced coachbuilt motorhomes since the mid 1980s and, along the way, has swallowed up the Autohomes, Buccaneer and Compass marques – with the last of those being reintroduced in 2019. The Elddis back catalogue even includes A-classes, but much of its output today is sold as dealer special editions.

The standard Elddis range comprises four van conversions based on the Fiat Ducato, while the rest of the line-up is all low-profile coachbuilts – compact Accordo and budget Autoquest on Peugeot and upmarket Encore on Fiat.

This year, the best-selling Autoquest 115 comes to market on a new 2.2-litre 140bhp Peugeot Boxer chassis, which adds more length and gives a gross vehicle weight of 3,500kg. The layout of this popular two-berth compact model has a front lounge with twin facing sofas and a rear kitchen and washroom. The now bigger front lounge easily converts into a large double bed or two single beds. In fact, if the double bed is made up, there is still a small seating area towards the rear of the motorhome.

Better still, to allow more sunlight to flood in, there is a new 400mm by 400mm MPK rooflight in the 115 for the coming season.

As one would expect from a high-spec motorhome built for the UK market, the kitchen has everything a chef requires, including a full oven, grill and hob with three gas burners and a large 90-litre fridge/freezer, plus plenty of worktop and storage.

The washroom, in the rear corner just behind a full-length wardrobe, features a full Ecocamel shower, Thetford swivel loo and boutique washbasin, which is fed by an underslung 80-litre water tank.

As with the entire Autoquest range of six models, the new 115 also gets an updated water heating system. The heart of the new CompleteHeat hot water and heating system is provided by Whale’s latest Expanse dual-fuel underslung eight-litre water heater and 4.7kW dual-fuel space-saving heating that provides ducted warm air heating throughout the motorhome.

Despite this being an entry-level motorhome, its standard equipment levels are anything but. The cab has a specification that leaves little to be desired, including twin airbags, cruise control, air-con, DAB radio, full-swivel captain’s seats with armrests and even electric, heated mirrors.

In the habitation area, you get double-glazed windows with blinds, six 230V sockets, and an integrated waste bin and flyscreen on the habitation door. It’s little wonder the Autoquest range is one of Britain’s most popular motorhome ranges.

The perfect family motorhome, the Elddis Autoquest 196 is a six-berth low-profile coachbuilt with a drop-down bed above the front lounge, which can be made into a further two berths, and another lounge at the rear that can also be made into two more berths. Thanks to Elddis’ berths-equals-belts policy, the 196 also has six fully belted travel seats.

As with its smaller sibling, the Autoquest 115, the new 196 also sits on Peugeot’s latest 140bhp Boxer chassis, which adds extra width, allowing even more interior space.

As befitting a family motorhome, the centrally located kitchen is equipped to cater for multiple guests with plenty of storage, worktop and a full oven, grill and three-burner hob. The washroom opposite is also created to manage the demands of a family, with a large shower area, swivel Thetford loo and boutique washbasin.

But what makes this model so popular with families is not just the facilities, berths and travel seats for everyone, but the fact that, with two lounges, the children can retire at one end while the adults still have relaxing space at the other to enjoy a quiet evening while the children sleep.

The Elddis Accordo range is made up of three layouts – a brace of two-berths and one three-berth, all based on the latest 3,500kg Peugeot Boxer chassis, which adds some 50cm extra interior width.

The range starts with the Accordo 105, a compact 6m-long two-berth coachbuilt with the popular twin facing sofas at the front and an across-the-rear washroom with full shower and plenty of room for changing. In the centre, you’ll find the well-equipped kitchen with storage opposite.

Next in the range is the Accordo 120, the second compact 5.99m-long two-berth, but this time it has a large rear lounge with twin facing sofas. These convert into two single beds or a large double. Again, there is a central kitchen with the large washroom at the front offside, just behind the cab.

The final Accordo in the trio is the three-berth 135 which is again just 5.99m long. This model comes with a front dinette, which converts into a single bed, and a central kitchen and washroom, then, at the rear is the lounge with those popular twin side-facing sofas that convert into the other two berths.
